Sure, myself and everyone here have some amazing rifles, but what about the brush busters, or maybe your first deer rifle? Here's my first hi-power from when I was 12. The OLD (1952 to be exact) Remmy 760. It's got more blemishes and scars than most of the women I've dated, but I still love her! Just something about that crusty sounding action and gouges in the stock that make me grin. :D

I still have my Marlin .30-30 that at least 3 generations have hunted with, got a couple of them actually. Something about still hunting the thickest brush with a lever gun.

Sconnie how'd you like the trigger pull on the old 760? I had one and thought softball size groups were good. Till I went to bolt .

started with an 1895 mauser 7x57, iron sights. Dad hit everything I ever saw him shoot at, I however never hit anything with it. Still have it, plan to sporterize it and
set it up with a scope. As for first rifle I was successful with, Browning lever action in .308 win. gun)

The trigger is just awful, and it's the only rifle I will not load for (I think it's just my loathing for the 30-06, and rounds are cheaper than dirt at my local Wal-Mart). 2" groups at 100ish paces with Winchester 180gn soft point ammo is about all she's worth

My first one was a Win Mod something 38-40. I had more confidence in my 2 1/2" 410 with slugs.

Next was a Mauser 93 7X57 w/military iron sights. Only bullet available was the 170 round nose. She was ugly but did in some white tails......

First and worst 721 Remington 30-06, 4x Unertl scope with a dot came with 14 220 grain round noses. Managed to kill a couple of deer and coyotes, ok to about 75 yards. Shot terrible once I started trying to get past that. 100 yards sucked, thought it was me until I got to shoot a rifle that would. Changed everything on it before I had a rifle that would shoot. Soured me on Remingtons, I still look at the customs on 700 actions that way-all that work and it's still a Remington. I know yours shoots flies on the wing, but I ain't going back that way.

First rifle I ever hunted deer with was a Win 25-35. I was like 13-14. Shot at about 10 bucks with that rifle and never touched any. But it taught me to get closer. Every rifle I hunted with until I was 19 was junk then I bought my first Pre 64 Model 70 brand new for 127 dollars and put a Weaver 4X on it. Practiced almost every day shooting steel jacketed military stuff that a uncle would give me and then the bucks started to go down.

Would not trade one of those days of hunting or practicing for anything. Taught myself how to get it done.

I was 13 when I got my 30-06, and my 14th B-day got an ammo can full of surplus AP rounds. What a wonderful world before PC set in. LOL

My very first was a $39.00 303 Enfield from the local hardware store.

Now my freezer filler is this Browning Safari BAR 30-06. Have quite a few doubles because when you shoot at one deer in a group and it drops and if the others freeze you can drop another. They don't hear you reload like with a bolt action, pump or lever gun. :)

Sconnie My cousin has a .270 in a 760 Rem. Last yr we tried to sight it in and after about 10 shots I realised like you said 2" groups are the best we could do at 100yds from a good bench. I hadn't shot one in almost 20 yrs and thought over that time I became a better shooter. But that gun is just not that accurate. You ever see any of the Benoit videos. The Rem 760 is all they use . They are trackers an like to let the lead fly if need be. Great thread though!!!!
