I just wanted to my 2 cents. I have Remington 700P (Police version with 26" HB 308). I found that 43Gr of IMR 4895 is giving me about the same velocity as FGMM with 168 SMK. (Both measured approx 2605-2620 by Oehler placed about 10 feet). The Primer is also Fed 210 Match. But the group is better with 42Gr (at 300 yards) with smaller velocity (2510-2530). I mean it is better than FGGM too. So depends what are you looking for, is to duplicate or exceed it. The 2n part I played with is OAL. I measured my chamber and it is a way long., around 2.925" (with 168 SMK). There is no way I can sit the bullet close to rifling. Even if I do it 0.050" off (2.875") I can pull the bullet out of cartridge by hand. I'm using Redding busing neck die with 0.336". I tried the standard 2.800" to 2.820" with 0.02" step. THe results are very inconsisent. The length goes always up and velocity is going up and down. The conditions are the same. I shoot 5 for each to have a better statistics (better than 3). 2.820 is my mag maximum. I'm not sure I want to experiment more with the OAL (at least for my rifle). Is anybody have similar abnormally long chamber? Any thoughts?
