Would the DPMS .243 with a 20" barrel be a good general ranch rifle for varmints, antelope, etc.? I probably won't shoot much over 400 yards. I finally found a place that has some. Just like any rifle I have read good and bad about them, but more opinions couldn't hurt. It's just a lot of money and I haven't shot one before.

I have the R-25 (DPMS makes it) chambered in .308 and I love it. I also have 2 .243s but they are both bolt action. I love the .243 and the .308. Watch your muzzle velocities on the .243 when it comes to barrel life, but there are plenty of rounds out there that will keep below 3500 fps to extend barrel life.
