I have a few calling stories. They've piled up cause my desktop took a dive and never came back up. Then deer season opened and the Coyotes got a break.
So we'll start with my trip to Beiber Ca to a ranch I have permission to hunt. Took my son who is 10 and has his hunting lic. still looking for his 1st Coyote and a guy that has kinda took the grand pa roll for my son since my dad lives in Eastern Wa. Don loves my kid and they get along great.
Our 1st set up I no more than turned on the fox Pro and the female Coyote came tearing thru the tree's and stopped @80 yds my son couldn't get on her the bi pod got stuck in some brush so I had to shoot. Made a clean shot on her 1 down.

So next set up we were behind the hay barn where the landowner said a big coyote was hanging out chasing his calves. we could see the top of the barn and found a nice cozy spot and set up caller and Mojo decoy.
4 mins or so in this female coyote comes in hard and stop on her own and again my son can't get a shot so Don dumps her @ 60yards. Nothing else came in so we headed out.

Next is my hunting dogs 1st coyote hunt that I called in a Coyote. We only sat this spot 2 mins and a double came in My friend shot it @ 100 yds and I let Sam my dog after it. It fled and he trailed and eventually cornered it and after a short skirmish it passed to yote heaven. Sam did execellent for his 1st Coyote.

    Ya, keep postin'

How about some more details on "Sam"? such as

What does Sam do while the caller is running?

What if the shot is a clean miss?

Is your "hunting dog" used exclusively for yotes?

What breed/kind of dog is Sam?

    + about 50 or 75 more questions.

    Your method(s) are very interesting.

Oh, please tell you wiffie to be not so obsessive with her 'puter.:)

To answer some questions about Sam........
He is a Black Mouth Cur/German Shepard cross he's about 75 pounds now.
While the caller is on or I'm using hand calls he just sits or lays next to me. He is not a decoy dog. I'm trying to train Sam to get to the Coyote after the shot and or find it if it runs wounded thats Sam's job and he enjoys it.
He's had encounters with 2 coyotes now and has shown his ability's in these tasks.
He sit quietly and looks around and he just recently started sniffing the wind and when he smells something he gets up and looks that way as he did the other day.
1st time he saw a coyote coming in he just sat there watching him come in he didn't bark or try to get after it he sat not making a sound and after my friend shot it I let him off his leash and said "Get em Sam" and after the coyote he went.
He is exclusively a coyote dog. I was gonna take him today but we took my friends new SUV and Sam is shedding.
Clean missed yotes just get a pass I don't send Sam after it cause hard telling where a Coyote will take him.
Sam is now a year and a half old and loves to hunt I just can't take him all the time But he'll be going more from now on I gotta get him more experience its the only way he'll figure out what I want him to do.
Here's more pics of Sam from last Fall.

    Very interesting, nice dog!!!
I have been thinking to do the same with my Deustch Drahthaar.
How about sent cover for the dog. I mean carbon spray to the dog so the yotes dont pick him up to fast? Any thoughts?

I don't use those things and I shoot Coyotes on a regular basis, the important thing is paying attn to wind direction and set up in a manner that best suits the terrain.
