Contender firing pin not hitting primer consistently

This has been a very interesting read. I have only had 2 or 3 misfires since I bought my Contender in the 90's, and fired a few thousand rounds through several barrels. I blamed my misfires on improper case sizing, but never positively knew. I am certainly a lifelong student of firearms and shooting and could never learn enough in three lifetimes. @ nksmfamjp, thanks for posting.

Im trying to figure out what cbtd is lol??
Case Base to shoulder Datum circle.

Usually a bushing is used to create the datum circle or to engage on the shoulder angle. Measurements are reference measurements because there is something different about how SAAMI measures. Also, I'm trying to figure out from zero effort bolt close, how much gap I have.

Bellm on headspace ….a good read

So, fired CBTD is 1.226". Before, I had some as long as 1.228".

I sized them to 1.222". Possibly that was a bit much. I'll try 1.224" next time.

This was the fix. 100% reliable…..oddly accuracy improved a bit too!
