As many here on forum I started long ago with 308 Winchester as my main rifle. In fact my Hart barreled rifle is built on trued Remington 78. The model 78 was no frills model 700. It does have old Shilen match trigger in it.

The 308 Win being my main rifle forced me to make it as versitale as possible. The 308 is very versatile allowing you to use 110gr to 200gr bullets if wanted. I always in past used 110gr varmint and Nosler 150BT bullets in it.

About 15 years ago I got into the bigger and better calibers and built many great Custom rifles which include 6.5 Creedmoor, 280 Ack Imp, 7mm SAUM, and 300 Weatherby.

About year ago I finally received my first suppressor which is Crux 6" Nemsis in 30cal. Wanting to start my new suppressor journey I threaded my old 308 Win for the suppressor.

Doing this rekindled my passion for the 308 Win. Now being quieter and with less recoil, has brought the 308 back to life for me. It dispatches game with authority and this includes both varmints and deer for me.

Nowadays more versitale loads include Nosler 125BT at 3000fps and the Hornandy 110 Vmax at 2600 fps. The 125BT does its job out to 400yds on our Texas Hill Country deer. For varmints I use 110Vmax which after load testing has it shooting to same zero at 100yds as the 125BT. The 110Vmax even at 2600 fps easily takes care of coyote and even works on small deer out to 100yds.

One other new improvement involved sending the Leupold 2.5x8 scope back to Leupold for Windplex reticle and new CDS turret for elevation. This improvement is good for me out 600yds for target(rock) shooting.

In the attached picture is how the old 308 Win looks today with its two loads. Red tip varmints and green tip for bigger and further out game.

So since being coaxed by getting new 30 cal. suppressor. I have
circled back to my old tried and true 308 Win. It is 25yrs old, tattered, and scratched but "it works".
