I would appreciate some advice on the recommended case selection/ preparation sequence. While I have been reloading for a longtime, it was always for 1' - 1 1/2" groups for hunting rifles. I now have an accurate, factory hunting rifle (3- shot, 2"- 3"groups at 400yds) that I would like to try and improve on. I did no culling on the new brass, but merely followed standard reloading practices with new factory unprimed cases, fired once, then cleaned and neck sized to achieve the above results. So the question is - could I expect to improve on the above accuracy adding some of the advanced steps to the process; i.e. by culling new cases by weight, neck thickness, case runout, etc and by neck turning, bushing die seating, culling by cartridge runout, etc. during the preparation?

    Thanks for the help.

Thanks very much AJ, that's a very good summary.

A couple of points of clarification -

    1. It sounds like you do not cull new brass by weight or runout. Correct?
    2. After you resize once fired brass without the expander ball, do you have to perform any other steps before the seating process?
    3. You made no mention of measuring neck thickness or neck turning. Do you ever perform these steps? and, if so, under what conditions?
    4. I have never used bushing dies. What are their benefits vs drawbacks?

Thanks so much for your help. I have to get the book you mentioned.

Thanks much for the reponse. It helped a lot.

It sounds like we have similar objectives. My guns are all hunting rifles and my max power scope is 12X.

Sorry about the thread mix-up, I'm pretty new to the forum.

No mix up on your part, I just noticed the other response first.

    Where are you located?

In Annapolis, MD. Good goose and whitetail hunting on the eastern shore and classic whitetail hunting in WVA. But I also try to get out west once a year.

    How about you?
