Take a look at the Innorel RC80, 85, or 90. Even to my frotto at 1/5 the cost, just need to put a good head on it.

I am not sure if it meets your requirement but I bought a Bog Deathgrip tripod carbon for $179 (at the time of purchase) at Amazon.

I have looked into those, I just wish it's had a ball type head so you could adjust for cant.

The Death grip does have cant. Side to side and up and down. I just bought one myself. Its a nice tripod, but HEAVY.......

Ahhh ok, for some reason I didn't think it had the side to side. Only up and down. Yeah the weight is also a factor.

The less weight, the more features, and more capacity it has the more it costs. I run a fiesol 3342 with a 50mm ball head and arca rails and mounts. The unit weights 3.5lbs and for the money is feature rich.

Yeah the weight is also a factor.

Because of your cant and lightweight requirements (not sure what else), that stupid expensive you are trying to avoid might be your only ticket or find the best compromise for your $300 budget.

Like Buzzsaw, it suits my intended purpose.

Guys the same is 177.00 wholesale I know I bought two of them for my wife and me to use on our handycap hunts in Ohio.

Look at photography stores like B&H, and Adorama. They'll have the best deals. I have a Gitzo but they're stupid expensive but the best, and RRR. Look at some ofF brands maybe Chinese made. A few to consider, benbo, benro, surui. Manfrottos that are good are still expensive. They're cheaper ones probably aren't as stable as you want.
If you can stomach aluminum, you can get a lot more for your money. Photographers used aluminum for years with much success.
