Berger VLD Hunting bullets... For hunting

Why doesn't he just seat them to .005" short of the mag length, and ladder test his powder from there? That's what' I'd do.

This is my method as well. I'll do a max charge work-up for several powders at 5thou under mag length, find one that gets me the velocity I want, and then tune it in.

I've only had one rifle that I couldn't make shoot well with VLDs. However, I have a few where I am running velocities lower than max. If they deliver the energy I need for my application, it's worth the trade-off (accuracy>velocity). IMO.
