That is quite a story. What a lucky guy. Mythbusters tried to shoot through a scope (lengthwise) but the bullets were always stopped. Apparently that's true for an ACOG, too.

They didn't use the same bullet or scope. So it wasn't an accurate test.

Incredible story. Glad the round was not able to get past that device. Just a bit off that bullet path would have been a devastating head shot to this gentlman.

It is truly sad that Marines and other service people had to buy their own (better equipment) while going into combat! Their are units that get the Best of The Best gear, but not all going into combat do. I know a lot of guys that went to Afghanistan and had to buy cold weather gear from REI.
When I was in the Corps in the early 70s most of our gear was from the WWII and Korea. Our Boxed C-Rats had dates on the cans from the 40s & 50s.
Good story on a Father's love to give his son a good optic to fight with and then it saves his life.

In 07 my gunner was in the Tourette, we were in a heck of firefight, his Elcan took a round right through the front lens and exited about a half inch in front of the back lens.
