cool rigs... I like the fact you set one up with lighter pills and one with heavies. Best of both worlds that way.

Well I finally killed with my stw. Ruger no 1 168 bergers rl25 got a pa bear this year undecided whether to keep using this bullet as the first shot blew thru pencil in out at 30 yards didn't seem damage much dropped him but he got up and required shot two which completely expanded and destroyed everything in its way still need to get a hicks accurizer and bed forearm and better scope. But I love this caliber

Congrats on getting her bloody!

As for the two shots, that's what happens at close range. Sometimes they blow up and sometimes they just pencil through and unfortunately there's really no predicting what is going to happen at such close range

I haven't done much load development. Just little playing around finding what she likes current load is 168 berger 75.4 gr rl25 fed 215m Remington case oal 3.78 shoots .5 to .7 groups at 100. When I got it nothing would shoot less than inch. Couple shims and floated barrel Will save more load development for when I get rest of work done to it

A very healthy addiction:). After the first one I knew right away I needed another. The Sako was originally started life as a 375 Ackley ouch. Found a Sako take off 7mm STW barrel and voila STW #2.
Well compared to dope or drinking in the long run it's a less expensive addiction and my wife would much rather see a new rifle in the gun room or in the truck than pick up empty beer cans or toss out scotch bottles.

I currently own two including my all time favorite rifle which is a Model 70 Sharpshooter in 7mm STW. If I can get a couple of customers to pay up in the next week or so I'll have a third which will be a dedicated LR specialist model for long range ambush hunting.

Once you get to shooting the STW though and understanding what it's capable of given a good barrel and action they are truly amazing.

Looked up some load data on the Hodgdon website for the STW and noticed that they list their pressures in CUP instead of psi... I assume their CUP listings (around 52000) coincide to loads that are in the 63,000 psi range since the 7mm RUM loads are in the 63 ksi neighborhood and are all listed in psi. Guess their data for the STW is older and they were still testing with a crusher gun?? Would be nice if they would update their data since SAAMI max pressure is now listed in psi for the STW.

Makes me want to splurge for a strain gage setup so a guy will really know what his chosen bullet and powder are doing in there...

Loaded up about 60 accubond long range pills in 168 and 175 to do a bunch of testing with. Using mostly H1000. Loaded some retumbo also to see how that compares behind the 175s.

18 of them are my best load from my first round of testing. 75 g. H1000 with the 168's and 215 primers. Post results when I get time to send them down range.

Planning to employ the OCW method at 300 yards to hopefully find a sweet spot. If I don't find a consistent winner I will be looking to Hart or Rock Creek for a barrel.

I LOVE THIS CARTRIDGE!! 7 STW Rules!!! My rifle started out as a 7 mm Rem Mag Weatherby Vanguard which got rebarreled with a Douglas #6 26" 1-9 twist and it shoots like a house on fire!! Pet load is 150 gr. Nosler BT sitting on 80 gr. 7828 with a Federal 215 spk plug. Shoots flat as a pool table leaving at 3550 ft/sec.!
Knocked a whitetail down at 300 DRT. Wouldn't shoot anything else for long range hunting it really is the cat's meow!! Another load I like alot is 81 gr Retumbo pushing a 162 gr Hornady BTHP--Super accurate with very high BC!! Awesome high power 7mm cartridge!! :cool:gun)

Pretty stout load there. I've ran a couple of 7stw rifles with 7828 and they were topped out by 80 grains 7828 with a 140 sierra. If you have a generous throat you may be alright, but your brass life isn't going to be great.

My model 70 STW Classic SS likes 76 grains of 7828SC in front of 215 primers pushing 150 grain Barnes TSX's
