7 STW Load Question

I have been lurking around here for a while now....learning a lot by the way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I recently purchased a custom 7 STW with an HS Precision stock and a 26" Hart barrel on a Remington action. I would like to develop a "one load does it all" for this rifle for both deer, elk and black bear hunting. It looks like the 160 grain bullet might be the way to go to capatilize on what this round is capable of. I thought I would jump in and ask the experts that have some experience with loading the 7 STW.

It will get you in the neighborhood. I shoot 175 seirra spb's. Because I like to shoot allot. I don't know your twist rate. But the 175's take advantage of all the powder capacity. I predominantly use h-1000 or R-25 way above the mild loads on the Hodgdon web site.

I have not had an elk stop this round yet out to 300 yards.

I would give the 160 Accubond or 154 Interbond a try with some H-1000. Either bullet should work fine with any animal you mentioned.

I'm with Dakor on this one. The 160 Accubond is probably as good a bullet as any (for purposes mentioned) and is easy to find.
In my 26" Hart barrel, H1000 and RETUMBO both shoot very well. At the same velocity & accuracy, I "presume" that the RETUMBO is producing less pressure and may provide longer life for the cases.

My Hart is also a 10" twist. It will stabilize bullets as long/heavy as the 162gr A-Max with no problem. I doubt that the 175gr SMK will work with your barrel.
