Im looking to rebarrel a savage to 6.5x284. Looking at all the barrel makers sites it seems there are many many different 6.5x284 chambers.

6.5x284 norma
6.5x284 lapua
6.5x284 rcbs
6.5x284 win.

When the 6.5x284 is talked about which one is the standard 6.5x284?

Thanks!

Win was the original wildcat. ...not sure about RCBS.

Norma standardized the cartridge with CIP. There is no SAMMI chambering.

Norma is what you want if you intend to use factory ammo.

PTG makes a "Lapua Match" reamer that's a little tighter chamber as I understood it when I bought mine. But, it's still a no-turn neck with Lapua brass. I seat VLDs to the lands and they fit in my M70 LA magazine.

As stated in prior posts, there are different variations. If you want to use out of the box Lapua brass and 140 VLD's, I'd gp with a 6.5x284 Norma with a throat that will give an OAL of of a loaded cartridge at least 3.17" to the lands with a Berger 140 VLD and a 1:8 twist. Both of my rifles(Cooper 52 and Savage LRH) have this set up and are very easy to load, and achieve very accurate results in the 3000 FPS range without excessive pressure out of a 26" barrel.
