6.5x284 - Load

I haven't tried RL23 yet in my Cooper Mod. 52 6.5x284 yet. I don't know exactly why but that rifle gets pressure signs even with factory HSM and Norma . Drives me nuts. I found a good load for my 6.5 PRC with 59.5 grs. RL23 and 124 Hammer. SD 3 ES 6. 3330 Ave. Fps. out of a 24 in. Barrel.
Forgot to say Fed. 210 match primer and ADG or GunWerks cases (same) used both.

I experienced the same pressure issues w/HSM (Berger 140 VLD Hunters) that you mentioned. Struggled to hit 2950's w/H4831sc even at max. Got some input from a friend who shoots this cartridge quite a bit and went to RL23, S&B primers, and seated at the lands. Pressure issues never surfaced and velocity was where I was hoping along with accuracy.

Thank you for that info ! For sure going to try RL23 in 6.5x284.

I use 50gr of IMR 4831 and 140gr Sierra Game Kings at 2893 getting 1/4" accuracy at 100 yds.

I have also used 49.5 of IMR 4350 with same bullets and get the same accuracy.

120gr Sierra Pro Hunter bullets got 1/3" accuracy from 49.5 of IMR 4350 as well.

My 6.5 PRC is very similar to your 6.5-284... With a 24in bbl, I'm getting accurate 124 gr. Hammer Hunter loads at 3200 with RL-26 and just a bit less with RL-23. Standard CCI-200 primers. You probably can get around there with your 6.5-284.

I tried CCI BR2 and Fed 210 match and had lower sd and es with Fed. Have a good load with RL26 with 156 Berger and Fed 215 match that has sd 4. I haven't tried reg. CCI 200. This I with 6.5 PRC.

Here are some of well proven loads I have used in my 6.5x284's. Start a couple of grains lower then my indicated charge weights.

So I have worked up a load for my 6.5x284. I'm utilizing 45 gr of RL22 pushing a 124 hammer hunter out of Lapua Brass.

My question for the group. This load is accurate, but is only flying at around 2710 FPS. I would like to get the 6.5x284 at 3000 FPS or faster but maintain accuracy. My desire is to reduce the bullet drop at 400 yards. Presently its at around 26" I would like to be sub 20" at 400 yards.

Anyone have any suggestions or revised loads.

I'm running it out of a Cooper 92 with 25" barrel 1:8 twist.
Retumbo might be worth trying around 55-57 grains with either 140 Berger or 143 eldx will hit 3000 plus and shoot well.

This weekend, my 6.5x284 was spitting out 124g Hammer Hunters at 3250 fps with no pressure signs with RL 26 and RL 23. (I am also using Lapua brass)
I'm actually looking to tone it down a bit to save brass and barrel life. Maybe 50-100 fps slower.
I'm curious if other 6.5x284 users are finding a good MV/Accuracy node???

For me, ~2950'ish, give or take a few. CA Ridgeline 140 VLD Hunters, Lapua brass, RL 23

You can get the speed you're looking for twitch the RL22 you have on hand. You seem to be loading way under minimum. I would work up the charge and see where you get before spending more money. If anything 4831sc would be my go to and you already have that on hand as well. Just my $.02.
