From APS Wildcat Information on Facebook

6.5mm Allen Magnum
338 Rem Ultra Magnum parent case, necked down to 6.5mm, fireformed to min body taper and sharper shoulder angle.
168 gr ULD RBBT (still in development)
142 gr. SMK or ULD RBBT at 3450 fps with 142 gr. in 27" barrel, 3550 fps in 30" barrel lengths.
Same design purpose as 257 Allen Magnum but designed for those that prefer the larger selection of 6.5mm bullets.
Appropriate powders: same as 257 Allen Magnum

257 Allen Magnum

looks like a great caliber what kind of barrel life would one of those have?

I'm thinking it would be about the same as the 270 AM which is projected to last for maybe 1200 rounds.

The AMs are designed for game taking. Thus if you limit your shooting to checking zero and shooting only coyotes, deer and elk the barrels will last a couple of life times. If you take 'em PD'n then only a day or maybe 2.:)

My 270 AM is just over 900 rounds and going strong. The Allen Mags are most impressive! Especially the very short time of flight.

Roy I have a Kirby built 270 AMP im interested in the powder difference I load Retumbo @70 grains getting 3150 with a 169.5 wildcat
what powder does the 270 Allen Mag use & how much? I was thinking I would get maybe 1000 rounds through it before it started down hill, but if you have 900 maybe i'm close but my AMP is closer to the Allen Xpress. I think 270 win short was also looking for a load to start with in his 6.5 am

What is a 270 AMP??? What case is it based on.

It seems much more efficient that the 270 AM.....

Only ball powders can be used with the 169s and 195s. I tried some of the slower stick powders behind them and had major powder bridging problems. That is, unburned powder jamming at the base of the neck. Pressures were most probably in the "proof" load range. But the ol' REM 721 made 'er through in fine style.

Loads are with US-869 for the heavy bullets. 7828 ssc for the 150 Noslers.

169.5 WCs - 99 grains of US-869 for 3450 FPS
195 WCs - 93 grains of US-869 for 3250 FPS
150 NBT - can't recall how much of 7828ssc for 3600+ FPS

The AMP is a 7mm dakota necked to .277 40* shoulder I goofed on the fps it's 3050 with 70 grains of Retumbo but I have room to spare we played with it, it get's up past 3200 but it shoots the best @ 3050 about 18 moa @ 1000 yards with a 290 zero the key is those high bc wildcats in this gun I am .750 bc

kirby's xpress is based on the 300 dakota with his shoulder configuration. but the AMP is a super efficiant caliber 28" rock creek barrel 5 groove jewell trigger
trued rem 700 action small painkiller break. AMP stands for Andres Muley Pounder designed by a friend of mine. It's a fun gun
