338 Lapua Improved

I was just having a conversation last night with my dad about trying CCI250's. They were great in my 338 Edge's, beating out the 215's. Not sure why I haven't tried them yet. Now that I have another set of cases fireformed I will probably try the CCI's next loads. I have RL33, Retumbo, N568, and H1000. For bullets I have Berger 300, Hornady 285's and Hammer 262's. The Hammer's are borderline too short since my rifle was throated for the 300 Berger
I've got 250's as well. Just started with 215's for some reason.

Same here.
I did the same with my first Edge. Everybody found a sweet spot with that round at 92 gr of H1000 with a CCI250(IIRC). I must've shot everything under the sun before finally trying the proven load and ,sure enough, it was the best I tried. Starting to feel like I've repeated the same mistake. Guess we'll see

Just curious, has anybody completed speed testing with Retumbo And n570 with 300 gr pills?
In our chambers we found max pressure in lapua brass at 101-102 grains of retumbo. Nets right around 2950-3000 FPS in 26'' proof's.

Also - in our experience, anything over 100 grains of powder we light em' up with federal 215's. We've had hangfires with CCI 250's with anything over 100 grains.

I hit heavy bolt lift at 101 grains of Retumbo as well. 2996, 2982, 2991 out of 26" Proof. .020" off with 300 Berger EH. I had 102 and 103 grains loaded up but pulled them.

Ran up to 108 grains with RL33 without the heavy bolt but had ejector mark. 3017, 3016,3020. I might revisit that load.
107 grains of RL33 went 2993, 2980, 2986
106 grains of RL33 went 2949, 2945, 2968.

With my reamer there are two nodes. The low node is about 100 grains of N570 and the high node is about 103.5. The last one I build pushed the 300 at 2960 from a 26" Bartlien at 103.5. CCI 250 is the right primer, and light neck tension. .010 off is where to start as well. This is one of my personal favorites. I have had 3 myself, everyone has printed a group in the 1"s at 1k. I cant say that for most of the other big magnums I have played with.

Looking forward to trying the 250 primers. Unfortunately I don't have 570. My barrel is 30". Still hoping RL33 will work since I have 11 lbs of it. Only have 5 lbs of Retumbo. Also have 12 lbs of N568
