I know this Rem 700P 338 Lap thread has been circulating for a few years now in one form or another, but I too have been told by my dealer that they are getting ready to be shipped with delivery in the next few months, but he had little other info.

Anyone have any definitive intel on this rifle ? Has anyone in the US or Canada received one yet ?

700P mlr

well here's some info;
26" barrel , 1x10 twist rate , factory muzzle brake , 4 round detachable magazine , HS precison stock , X-Mark Pro trigger assembly. no mechanical sights. limited number if rifles available due to production by custom shop.
Here's some scoop on he 700P MLR
only available from remington LE division
Remington LE only ships to designated LE dealers of which there are very few. (
there are 2 in Texas ,a list of these dealers is on Remington LE website.
production time is 90-120 days
in 2007 there was an order in house for 265, there were 150 produced in 2007 during the first production run
the second production began on dec. 17 2007,of which are the ones being delivered now.
if you want one order through a remington LE distributor from the list and be ready to wait for quite a long time for the current and past orders to be filled.when your order comes up it will be 90-120 days for production and delivery.
Mine was $975.00 from the dealer I ordered it through,we are both satisfied with the sale.
it kicks pretty good but not bad enough to be concerned about.
good looking rifle and it is very loud.
all in all "ITS SWEET !!!" glad I finally got mine!!!!!

Couple of corrections having handled one last week - the detachable magazine is 3 rounds.
So the 4 round comes about by 3+1 in chamber. Magazine is vertical feed.
Barrel is 26 inch overall including integral break having approx 1.5" freebore at muzzle and cross drilled exhaust holes. Useful barrel length is approx 24.5" less loaded round length.
Will have some shoot feedback soon from chap loading first rounds now.

I have an 338 Lap 700P MLR on order. But, the more I read about this rifle, and the gets-shorter-by-the-minute barrel (24.5" length for a 338 Lap ????), the cross drilled MB, and way-high cost of Lapua brass, the more I think rebarrelling one of my 300 RUM's to 338 Edge makes way more sense. I will have to wait and see when my dealer calls - but it sounds like the next guy on the waiting list may get it.

The way I look at it, the price for the rifle seems good for a 338 Lap rifle ($1500 up here in Canada), but is it (?) if you will need to rebarrel it (338 Lap needs min. 27" barrel), and likely restock it (several reasons why, that I can think of) ? In my case, sounds like the cost of the base rifle is quickly turning into a pretty expensive, but not-quite-right 338 lap action !?

The Laupa will work very well with the barrel that it comes with... The Laupa Brass iss EXCELLENT>>>>>>>>>>

Sounded so good up until the barrel length thread 26" including the brake :(. 30" including the brake and I would be on the waiting list. I guess because it's main intention is for LE use they had to make it in a size that is practical. Oh well!

What are the expected (real-world or otherwise) performance limitations with this 24" barrel in the real world of long range shooting/hunting ?
