I'm in the process of building a .308 win for mid range shooting. Plan on mainly shooting 175 smks and maybe some 185 bergers. Which bore diameter do you guys recommend for this purpose, .299 or .300 in a Bartlien 5R?

I'm thinking of a 11 or 11.25 twist as well.

The only time I have ever used .299 bore is for a Palma rifle. The 155 grain palma bullet has a very short bearing surface. By making the bore smaller it stabilizes the bullet better. For 168s and up, the standard .300 bore is normally used. Using a .299 bore with factory ammo could generate higher than normal pressure. The palma barrels also have a reduced major diameter of .307 or .3075 instead of .308.

Based on your desire to shoot 175s and 185s I would recommend going with the standard .300
