308 Information

I limit my brass to Alpha or Lapua, my primers to Fed GMM or CCI BR, my powders to Varget, RL15 (or 15.5), N140, IMR4064, maybe 4166, and my bullets to 175s, 178s and 185s. I consider anything over 800 yards to be "long range" for the .308. I have shot the 308 to 1200 yards and even a bit farther in good, calm conditions, but the 308 is really affected by wind. I do not attempt shots on animals beyond 350 yards.

I agree with the boys, Lapua Brass is very good Brass, but I use Winchester Brass a lot ,but I separate it by Weight with a max spread of 3/10th of a grain. Ex; Case Weight 180.0 to 180.3 grns. Trim, if needed Chamfer and deburr the necks, then polish the inside of each case neck with a brush on a drill press, Then I use Winchester LR primers. I have gotten some pretty good 100 yard 3 shot groups from my un tuned, unmodified Savage 308. I am using 3031, and 115 grn. Berger FB target bullets

Seeing multiple comments about 168 SMK I feel I need to +1. You can talk until you are blue in the face about how bad the BC is, how unstable it is at long range. And all true. But inside 600 yards I think if you have a gun that won't shoot 168 SMK's it won't shoot anything. Like a magic bullet when the application matches it's capabilities.

I mentioned a load earlier in this thread. I also shoot a 130 TTSX out my 18" 308 bolt gun that is suppressed. AA2460 and I get about 3100FPS. Using SigSauer new 308 brass. Shoots in the same hole if I do my job.
5 shot group in the photo.

Will be picking up a 308 , built for long range targets.
I've loaded for the 300WM; 7mm Rem Mag; and 33 Nosler.
I have some questions on loading for this particular round:
What brass would be good for this?
What rounds are guys having success with?
What primers are you using with good results?

Thanks!

Sierra 175gr Mk, RL-15 (43.5gr), Federal 210M primer, Lapua case, 24" barrel 2650 fps. clone M118LR

My personal brass recommendation is Lapua, probably from my loading for the 338 LM. That being said, unlike some, I have had a lot of good experiences with LC. I recently got back into reloading, the knees and ankles no longer like me wading the streams for trout. I recently retired a lot of mixed dates LC 30-06 converted to 25-06 from my early loading days in the '70s. They had well over a dozen loads before the first split neck. I have a small batch of LC 7.62 brass for the AR 10. I added them to my stock after fully prepping them.
As far as range, when qualifying with the M14, we shot pop-ups at 500meters without any difficulty. I get great accuracy from the AR 10 at 100 yards.
