I'm using Fed 215 GMM, Win case, RL26 and Hornady 212gr ELDX bullets looking for a long range elk round that cuts through the wind.

First, there is no real data for this, so I thought let's shoot a ladder, measure velocities and look at primers.

i started at 64 gr and went to 69.1gr.....I was sure I was going to be pulling bullets over 68 something.....nope 69.1gr hit 2860 fps with no serious case or primer marks....I still need to look with magnifier......and most shot into a 1" group!

I will shoot some OCW's, but I'm wondering if I should keep looking for pressure. There is just a bit of bolt lift at 68.8 and 69.1, so I feel that is max most likely.

Is 2860fps ridiculous for 212's from a WSM?

Really, I'm just wondering if this looks reasonable based on experience of others here.

What barrel length? Freebore? OAL? I have no problem getting 2940(accuracy, pressure is around 3050) with 215s out of my .220 freebore 26" with rl26.

26"
Freebore....way too much like 3.10" oal is touching lands, but Mag length 2.95"

maybe I'll have to see if I can get a little more!

Not the 212, but I did try running the 200 ELD X in mine. Mines not quite a .220 Freebore, but it is longer than SAAMI. Most of my rounds end up being 3.1+ OAL when running minimal jump.
Anyway, loaded a ladder up from 67-70 by .5 with 3 at each charge. Never did get a stiff bolt. Had flat primers above 69 but no cratering. I stopped at 70 because I don't like to take it to stuff bolt. 70 yielded 3020fps which I thought was scootin for a 200 grn bullet out if a 300wsm. With both the 200 ELDX and Berger 200.20x i settled at a slower node at 2930fps. The ELDX took 68.5 grns to get 2925fps and the 200.20x took 69.0 grns for 2932fps. Sorry, this is out of a 26" 10 twist proof using RL26. Good luck with the 212, I gave up on the 200 ELDx because the Berger shot just a bit better.

Well, I shot these today. I have an idea what groups I like best, but wondering what you folks think.

Also, I shot a round at about 70 F and today was like 45F. I'm getting about 1.3fps per F temp sensitivity...what is normal for this powder?

My 300 wsm is in hand and just mounted the Atacr tonight. 24" Proof 1:9 so hopefully it will like the 200 eld, 200.20x as I will be limited by my Accurate Mags to about 2.98"
The loads above loaded to 2.94" with a lot of freebore. Seems to work.

All of those groups show promise to me and likely just need a tiny tweak to seating depth and will drive tacks.

1.3fps/ degree F is a bit much for my likes but seems inline with what most see. On my deer rifles that are rarely shot below 50 or above 70 I'm okay with R26.
This rifle will mainly be for bear and elk and hunted from 80 degrees to 10 degrees so the sensitivity may be too much.

The only way to find out is shoot them and see what it does in your AO

The final group there measured 0.13". In going to load up 25 and shoot 5 groups. If accuracy is consistently under 0.5"@100yd) and Sd holds up, I think I'm done for a while!

Ensure you test at long range. Years ago I had a Berger 215 load that was bughole at 100. It could barely hit a 4x8 sheet of plywood at 700.
I abandoned the heavy bullet theory and went to 175's. Never looked back.
