Got lucky and tagged my buck opening morning. Funny story, saw him at 8:30am. I didn't think he was legal (3pt. minimum here in WA). Then it rained hard for 30 minutes and couldn't see him. Then my daughter said she thought he was legal. Then I confirmed he was legal. Then I wasn't sure I wanted to shoot him as he was only a 3pt and I wanted to hold out for a bigger buck. After watching him for 4 hours, bedding, standing, bedding, everytime I'd line up for the 317 yard shot he'd bed, or stand with his back to me, or stand behind a tree. I finally couldn't take it any longer and decided to shoot him in his bed. Problem was, there was a small pine and some brush in front of him. No problem, I think I can sneak a round in there. Well, I did. He never got up. Took an hour to hike back to the truck and drive around to him but he was there, dead as a doornail, big pool of blood under him. Perfect neck shot. Trouble was I was aiming for his heart... I'm pretty sure the brush deflected my shot as I was prone over my backpack and had plenty of time to shoot and wasn't overly excited. Thankfully the shot worked and he turned out to be bigger than I thought so we were very grateful to have him. Now I need to go, deer steaks for dinner right now!
