I just recently picked up a Weatherby Backcounrty in 300 Win Mag. I am thinking of shooting 180 Accubonds, GMX, TSX, TTSX or Partitions. I want to use H1000 as i seem to have a fair amount of it on the shelf. Is the H1000 a powder sufficent for 180 grain bullets or would I be better off usign a different powder or using a differnent weight bullet?

I have tried a bunch of bullets and I always come back to 208 eldm. I initially started shooting the 208 amax and used it for years out of the Winnie for deer and they got down. The 208 eldm or 215 hybrid is all I shoot and have had great luck with both. H1000 is my go to powder for it also. Very easy to find a load. There is almost always a great node in the 75.5 to 77 realm. But as is standard, do not start that high and always work up!!

I think I'd save the H1000 for 200 plus grain bullets and try some H4831 either standard or shortcut for the 180gr bullets.

I would like to stay away from the eld bullets if at all possible. And I do have both 4831 powders and 7828. The short cut should burn no different than normal cut on powders correct?

They advertise that shortcut is no different than the standard. But on pressure testing I found it slightly faster.

I use Barnes LRX 175's and RL 22 in my Win Mag. It's been a consistent performer for me. I would imagine RL23 would be good too. I Have loaded Barnes, as my go to for hunting, since about 2006. I haven't had to many problems with loading and shooting these bullets.

I have used H1000 with 180g TSX Bullets in my and my dads 300 win mags for years (80g) got roughly 3000 FPS.

I just recently worked up a load for a new 300 WM with the 181g Hammer Bullets. That one is shooting 3050 with 82g.

Only problem is that I have to crimp while seating cause this one is a little compressed and those hammers have a slippery bearing surface.

But it's very accurate and consistent.

There might be better powders from a purely academic standpoint but I say go for it, you're not likely to be disappointed.

Are both loads crimped?

Not suggesting U use these loads as I had been using my 300 winny since late 60's & it was loaded hot - 165's &180's for Hunting (70.0 4350, 77.0 4831 - respectively) -{ the Vietnam Sniper Round was Federal Cases, 190grainers over RL22 } I use Federal mag.Match primers & my best long range target load is 215 Berger's over 69.5 RL 22 - (0.25 MOA's out @ 750 Metres — in 5 Shot groups). ...
Lots of powders (4350 - 1000) have performed veery nicely <1.0 MOA —
But my 28" Liljia LIKES RL22... (Spectre, Jewel, Nightforce, etc.)

It works great for me
