Tried some load development in my 300 Win Mag with Hornady 225 ELD-M. I got some confusing velocity numbers. It is a 26" barrel Fierce rifle using Gunwerks brass and Federal GM215M primers. All shots were with once fired brass and 0.020" jump. Velocities were captured with a magnetospeed V3.

H1000
75.5gr - 2897 fps
76.0gr - 2843 fps
76.5gr - 2927 fps
77.0gr - 2891 fps
77.5gr - 2949 fps

RL26
72.0gr - 2896 fps
72.5gr - 2890 fps
73.0gr - 2906 fps
73.5gr - 2989 fps
74.0gr - 2998 fps

I did allow barrel cooling between each shot, but did not time the cooling between shots. I shot Berger 215s the same day and had a normal velocity progression.

One load at each weight does not the story tell. 1/2 gr of those powders means very little. Accuracy and low SD are what you're after.

Hey there! I'm about to finish up load development on a .300 Win Mag using RL26 and Berger 210's. I've ran several ladder tests over a Magnetospeed, but I progress in .2 gr increments. I notice your progression is in .5 gr increments. If you're looking for an accuracy/velocity node you might actually miss it with a progression that large.

I might try running them again. I was planning on trying .3 GR increments. I've done more reading on the subject and it seems that .3 GR is pretty common.

I just thought it was weird to have it speed up and slow down the way that it did with both powders.

That's a heck of a lot more velocity than my 300 win will do with either of those powders! I'd say you're doing well

RL 26 has some impressive velocity numbers for sure. The node I found in mine is between 3037 fps-3053 fps for a 210 gr Berger vld-h. I see those 'velocity anomalies' from time to time as well and can't really explain it other than maybe slight differences in the lot of brass here and there? It sure isn't powder variation as I use an A&D FX120i scale. I've found that the Satterlee method is very consistent.....as long as your loading methods are fine tuned.

I'll try again using .2gr increments.

Sounds good. I also allow 10 minutes between shots to give the barrel a reasonable time to cool so as to get a 'truer' idea of velocity for that particular shot. Magnums generate a lot of heat and warm up a barrel pretty quickly. Good luck, have fun with it and keep us posted on how it goes!

I would say try the .3 gr increments but I think you velocities are close ish. Mine is running the 225 about 2940 but it's a 28" barrel with rl 26. Rl26 is awesome but there may be a trade off with the barrel life. We shall see.
