I WILL HAVE MY NEW 700P THIS WEEK AND WANT TO START WORKING UP SOME LOADS. HAS ANYBODY HAD ANY LUCK WITH THE 200 GRAIN ACCUBONDS. I WANT TO DEVELOPE AN ELK LOAD FOR THIS FALL. LIKE TO GET 3200 F.P.S. IF POSSIBLE. I HAVE READ ALOT ON RETUMBO AND RL25 SEEMS LIKE THE PLACE TO START. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY WISDOM THEY'D LIKE TO SHARE, I'D BE MUCH APPRECIATIVE.

I think you can get 3200fps, Bill Bailey is getting that fast or close with his 300RUM and a 210gr uld. Now his gun has a 30" pipe so you have to consider. Those accubonds are great bullets and should be hell on elk or whatever

retumbo is a good powder with minimal temp sensativity

good luck

92 gr RL 25, Fed 215M, Rem case, OAL 3.670 chrono'ed 3150 and very good accuracy. 95 gr Retumbo netted 3140 fps and fair accuracy in my gun a factory 26"bbl 700 bld. both loads with the 200 gr accubond. I think with a 26" bbl it just depends on a lot of variables from gun to gun whether 3200 is doable or not. Some guns yes, others no. With a longer bbl? definately doable. There also may be a couple other powders that may do the trick.

I don't know if this passes for wisdom to share but if not then you can use it to fertilize your garden.

The accubonds have three things that make it hard to get them to go fast and cause pressures to be a little high sometimes.

First - long bearing surface
Second - thick tough jacket
Third - hard alloy center that doesn't compress very well.

Don't use some other bullets max load for the accubond without a slow approach. Plus the load you develop now may be very surprising in July and August. Always embarrassing to have to use a cleaning rod to get your cases out of the chamber.

I have achieved 3200+ from 2 different powders in a stock remington 26" barrel. 94g H-1000 gives 3204fps average with the 200g AB. Best 500 yard group I've shot to date with this combo at 500 yards was 1.5" 95g of Retumbo gave 3225fps and was also pretty accurate at 500 giving a group of 3.5" These were max loads for our rifles.

I get 3146 FPS with the 200 AB in a 27.25" 12x barrel. I also have a bench rest tight neck chamber. With a factory SAAMI chamber, 3200 FPS is attainable even for a 26" tube.

I shot a 55" bull moose last year with that load at 650 yards. It was pure he!! on that bull. It will easily harvest elk and moose out to 800 yards cleanly.

Yes RL-25 and retumbo are about the best for the 300 RUM. Mine really shines with RL-25. This load has given me as good as 5/8" at 300 yards and none over 1" at 300 yards.

Hbar, the last two 300 RUMs GG and I have loaded for shot at 3220 fps with 200 gr ABs RL 25 and 215 Fed match primers out of stock (26")Remingtons. Very accurate as well, whacking the gong out to 1145 yds.---7mmRHB

Below are
my best results with my SAKO. Will this do? I do not think anyone or anything can tell the diff that 25 fps make on either side of rifle! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
