This would get me out to 1000yds and not have to plug in a bunch of ballistics out to there. I'm a little concerned about barrel life though. Am I just worried about nothing, and most likely never shoot it out if I don't load it too hot and take care of it? Will it be significantly better shooting these heavier bullets? Then I really like the edge for it's down range energy! Then again is it like the difference of being hit by a semi or a one ton on the freeway! It's still gonna hurt! Also it seems like the general consensus is that the barrel life is much longer. Seems like everyone that has built an edge is extremely pleased. I also live really close to Shawn Carlock's shop so I would most likely have him do the build on the edge. Is one really more expensive to shoot or build?
I'm having a problem deciding which one I want to build. I think I have decided and then change my mind! Its going to be a hunting rifle mainly for elk and deer. Also some steel in the off season. I really don't want to go longer than a 28in barrel. I'm wanting to top it with a Huskemaw 5-20. I won't be shooting game much over 1000yds. For that reason I really like the 300 with a 208 A-max or 210 or 215 Berger. 3150fps is the velocity I would try for with the 215. Sounds realistic to me after reading some forums on here. As i really don't want to break the bank too much! Any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated!
