[QUOTE="bigngreen, post: 440911, member: 13632"] Well it looks like your going to dive in!!! The 270 WSM hasn't been over looked it is just hard to get it into the 1000yrd range on game without running on the raged edge of pressure. I hunt in the 6000-10,000ft elevation range which helps. If you going to do it Rem brass handles the most pressure and getting some brass life but if you get a reamer set up right and head space it tight you can run with the better Norma brass, ideally you would have it in a long action so you can set it up long also. You'll be FL sizing every firing so just get a Redding bushing die up front and save the time. You'll need to anneal your brass, it is thick and gets hard fast when your romping on it and FL sizing every time and neck tension will vary to much for BR quality loads. Your Tikka should do good, I know the owner of Wildcat bullets was shooting the 169.5's just over 2900fps with a barrel just under 24 in with a 1-10 twist. For reloading I would work real hard on the 150 Berger and 140 Accubond till we see the Wildcat bullets, which will be soon I hope!! Slower powders have worked better in the 270 WSM's I've worked with, like H1000 and Retumbo but Magpro and R17 are Short mag powders, I was just never able to get them accurate. There are some solutions for the 270 in regards to high BC bullets but they are not quite ready for production but watch on this web site and it will come up when it's GTG:D I really dig the 270 WSM but a 1000yrd will be pushing it on elk till we see the Wildcat bullets, you can get it loaded up to do it but things will have to be perfect and shot placement will be absolutely critical, you won't have the steam to rock them through the shoulders. Wind calls will have to be sub moa!!! Just a though but I would buy a cheap 308 and shoot the crap out of it and get it to a 1000yrds accurately then get serious about taking the 270 WSM out there, I did a lot of learning with mine and now that I'm getting things nailed my barrel is toast, learning how to cold bore shoot with sub moa wind call takes round count!!!!
