I'm interested too, as I just put a new barrel on. I have a load that runs quite accurate with the SST in the new barrel and was more accurate with the old one. It's 56.5gr H4831 (not max), right at about 3.2inches...IIRC. Win primers and brass. I'd like to see about some tweaking to make that more accurate, and also have some Hornady 140btsp I'm planning to try out.

This is gonna go against most everything you've read in the reloading manuals.
Having shot the 270 Win with 130s and 140s of all manufacturers since 1967 and having replaced the barrel once here's what I learned:
1. From the Speer #9 Loading Manual to now one of the better powders listed is 4831.
Nah! It's a dud powder. Learned that years ago with the advent of the chronograph.
No matter how much 4831 I crammed in, even to the point of expanding the case
enough to prevent chambering, couldn't get to 3000 FPS w/130s.
2. Norma 205 was THE powder to make the Winny perform. It went away….:roll eyes:
Now its back…
3. RL-22 became the goto powder. It's the same as Norma 205 was with a ton more
temperature sensitivity.
4. The new goto powder is PP-4000 MR. With the CCI-200 primer and Winchester
brass, the strongest/highest capacity cases I've come across, velocities can
approach WSM factory velocities with 130/140 grain offerings.
I've shot those velocities with N-205, RL-22, and 4000 MR for all of those years. I stopped increasing powder when velocity got to 3190 FPS which seems to be the sweet spot for that rifle with any bullet I feed it. I have cases that I have had since the rifle was put together in 1967.
Start low and work up, as usual. Each rifle is an individual.
I use the 140 Berger @ 3190 and she sure is a sweet shooter. She sports a 27" Lilja barrel. She originally was fitted with a 24" Douglas and achieved the same velocities.
The Douglas barrel was good for 3/4 MOA all day long. The Lilja is much much better.

Wow Roy, 3100. ****, my 270wsm only shoots 3080 with 140 gr Noz Bal. with 61 gr of RL-19. will be giving that a shot.

3080 is plenty enough for some long range stuff with that bullet.……I'm a velocity hawg though…...:roll eyes:
Try putting 99 grains of a real slow powder behind a 170 class bullet in 277. Pretty nifty stuff…..

Yeah, I am building my T3 in 270wsm. I have 100 Matrix 175's, a Brux 8 twist #10 contour. I have to get the Manner t4 yet. $548 for the manners and $850 for the smith. out of work 15 months, barely have any jingle, let alone any crinkle! LOL.

I concur that rl22 is a good powder for 130's in a 270; I'm at 3100fps with 130 barnes mrx mono's in one of my 270's with it. I also use i4831 in one with gmx 130's for 3100 fps. Both of my rifles are 22" bbl.'s. I'm using rl17 with 130 nos bt's for just under 3100 fps also. It seems I'm being cheated a bit with my 22" bbl.'s; if I ever need to re-bbl. one of them I think I may go a bit longer.

I knew you would show up and I'm glad you did. The reason I've never played with RL22 is the temp sensitivity. How does 4000MR behave with temp fluctuations? I do have some RL17 I got to try in my 7-08 that I might try in the 270. They claim 3130ish with a 130, which isn't bad at all.

I'll have to dig up the load info but with 130 gr BT I was getting 3200 and with my 140 AB I'm at 2800 since they grouped the best there. Haven't tried the Berger's yet.

I am having my best results with N560 at higher velocities in my Mark V Accumark. You need to determine whether your 270 likes faster or slower burn rates some like powder in the 4350 burn rate. I would try both H4831 and H4350 if you have them.
If 4350 shoots better you can try RL19, I4350,WIN 760. If 4831 shoots better you can go to RL22, I4831, N560.
There are alot of options out there for the 270 win. If you can find reloaders nest on line they have a caliber guide that's full of loads proved in other peoples rifles.
