does anyone make dies to neck a 300 Win Mag to 257? I checked the custom dies listed on Huntington and Redding, I also searched on Midway and got nothing.

Anyone shooting one of these?? what kind of velocity are you gettting???

Thanks Guys

A real barrel burner, probably no better than a .257 Whby or 25-06 akly. I have a std 25-06 that shoots 115 Berger vld at 3200 with Vhit N165. plenty good for chucks out to 1200 yds.

Blygy, I don't have a 25/300WM, but several have reported that the case capacity is about 88 grains, and they get around 4,000 fps with the 100 grain bullet. I would have thought that around 3,800 - 3850 fps would be more realistic in a 26 inch barrel.

Although the 300WM case is about .060 longer than the 257 Weatherby, it is about .015 smaller at the shoulder, so the
capacity is very similar.

I am currently using 300 WM brass to neck down to 257 Weatherby as I have found the Norma 257W brass too soft. The new Norma 257 Weatherby brass is about 87.8 grains compared to 85.2 for the new 300WM brass when necked down to 257Weatherby. So the brass is obviously thicker than the Norma 257W.

I believe that the case capacity of the 25/300WM is best suited to bullets in the 115 - 142 grain range, and would choose a 9 twist barrel for bullets up to 130 grains, or a 8 twist barrel if I was going to use the 142 grain Wildcat ULD.

Good luck on your project. Brian.

Blygy,
Redding carries them in their custom line. I believe the part # is 80728. Any way,the Nov/Dec issue of "Rifle Shooter" has a really good article on your caliber. The author of that piece has dubbed his rifle the ".25 pronghorn". Some good loading data there too. Also +1 on what oldbear said. I shoot a 257 WBY and a buddy of mine has a 25/300WSM. They are both great quarter-bores. Good luck and good shooting....
God Bless
Jim

I reload for a friends 25-300Win mag hte dies are Redding with the bushings I'll have to dig them out to find the part numbers.
Its a great round 4000fpsis doable with a 28" barrel and Lapua brass.
the 115 Ballistic tips are great on deer way out their.
