So I am working on developing a good load for my 300 PRC (Christenson Arms). It shoots the factory 225 ELD match very well but I am looking for a good elk hunting round with good weight retention and penetration. I started with Reloader 26 and 3 bullets. The 199 hammer hunter, the 200 grain Swift A-frame, and the 208 Barnes LRX. The hammer hunter was 6 MOA left of the factory ELD match and my initial ladder (to find max load and velocity) grouped quite well. The A frame had a similar POI to the factory but grouped quite poorly with the ladder. What blew me away was that i could not get on paper at 100 yards with the 208 LRX. My paper was 11 inches tall and 24 inches wide. I started at the center of the paper the. Aimed at each edge. Never found paper with 6 rounds. I couldn't believe there would be that much difference from one bullet to another. Has anyone had a similar experience with the 208 grain LRX? Wondering if they are tumbling or some other crazy thing.
Edit: my gun has a 1:8 twist.
