This weekend was the official opener in my region. It felt good to experience the “mystical flight of the arrow”. @Muddyboots It also felt good for a plan to come together. I picked the target. With her actions, she told me she was ancient. Ever so cautious, she approached. When anchored, I made the mental calculation of how far this old girl would drop at the sound of the release. I settled my 30 yard pin approximately 2-3 inches under her brisket line. Risky for sure. But I’ve watched her kind before. For those that don’t know, These south Mississippi does are some of the wariest big game animals hunted. Just as I predicted, at the crack of the release, she all but hit the ground. My gold tip entered and exited perfectly leaving a blood trail Ray Charles could follow. However, trailing wasn’t necessary, A sharp broad head performing a pump station disconnect generally results in a less than 4 second dash and this was no exception. After the deboning, the jawbone was pulled. Will get a confirmation from our state biologist, but she appears to be 10+ from the amount of tooth wear. The ice has been broken, hope to get the opportunity to release that arrow several more times this season.
