I have had only 2 experiences with th hornet and yotes, both dogs downed. One was around 90 yards and 1 was 130 or so yards. Both were shot with factory 20 grain vmax. Both not impressive. 90 yard dog dropped, thought it was downed but after I shot the 2nd one and it ran off I looked back at the 1st one to see it trying to stand but could not. Shot it again and no difference, thought I missed until it got skinned. Shot it a 3rd time and it was still trying to stand! I wanted to break the gun at this point I was so disgusted. 1 in the head at this point cause it already had a ton of holes and it was over. Walking out to the other one, found blood and trailed him almost 300 yards, paicing it out. Dog was still alive as well! Another headshot, mange so didnt care. Anyways I was disgusted. Went back to the 1st one and found my 1st shot was a splash off the shoulder blade, softball size hole on the entrance, after skinning found the other holes right where I placed the shots. So the 20 grain vmax in 17 hornet are not a good choice in my opinion. In NYS the only rifles allowed in southern zone while deer is open is a 17 hornet, 17 rem or 204 ruger. I picked up some 25 grain hornady hp's and loaded them for the 17 cause I have seen some forums with great results. I will be trying them on some yotes this weekend if they choose to cooperate and will post results, is anyone else hunting yotes with a 17 hornet and what combos are you seeing best results with? I love the round and would hate to get rid of it for a 204 but am having doubts, 17 rem is impossible to come by in these parts...

[QUOTE="CNY Yote Hunter, post: 1729612, member: 109650"] Was hoping for some input on the 17 hornet and big northern Ny coyotes.
