17 Hmr

Well I finished the Anschutz 17 HMR and was I surprised !!!

Went to the range to function test and start the breakin
process but only had 14 rounds of 17 gr hornady V Max ammo.

Cleaned the bore and fired 1 sighter , made the site correction
and started the breakin shots (clean and shoot,clean and shoot)

I did'nt pay attention to what the group size was but when I shot
the third round at the target each round seamed to get close'er
to the center.

After 6 shots I stoped to cool and clean(as if it needed it to cool
down).

Took a good look at the target and was impressed , considering
I was cleaning between each shot a .497 group at 100 rds is
very good.

With only 6 rounds left I decided to try and shoot a one more group
to see what it could do.

5 shots later I was very impressed with a .215 group @ 100yrds,So
impressed that I went to a local gun show and bought a used
Anschutz 164m 22 mag to build one for my self.

As soon as I can get pictures of the rifle and group I will post them.

wow, that's some impressive shooting. I'm guessing that there was no wind. I've shot some very good groups, but you can't have much wind.

let us know how you like the mag.

You are right about the wind! At our range we have a three table 100
yrd range that is separated from the rest of the range and has a berm
down each side that really helps to minimize wind effect.

This makes a prefect test range for breakin and accuacy or chronograph
testing.

I like a no wind condition for zero's so that I have a base line to add wind
or elevation as needed.

And the MAG is what i'm going to biuld my 17 HMR on. And I hope
it shoots as good as my customer's rifle!
