Hi, getting a 7/270 build and would like some advice on min barrel lenght ,powder ect.... to get around 3000 fps , with either the hornady or berger heads ?
Over on accurate shooter there is an article about 7mm's. I think with a .284 they were getting 3000 fps with the 180gr berger using Reloader 17 and about a 30" barrel.
Here is the link, 7mm Cartridge Guide within AccurateShooter.com
I would imagine the .284 would be closest to a 7/270. How close is that to a .280?
The 7/270 is almost the same as the 7wsm ,so could assume the question to be based on the 7wsm .
Would one get 3k from 22" ?
Or would i need it closer to 26"?
My cousin was shooting his 24" 7wsm with 180grain Berger hybrids with 66grains of H1000 and he got 2795fps with no pressure signs. His next loads will be 66.5 and 67.0
Given that, I think you can easily get a 162/168 going 3000+ with a 26"+ barrel.
I shoot the 162 amax with 67 grains of H-1000. I'm getting about 3170 fps out of a 30" 9 twist Broughton. This is not a max load, but this is where it really shoots in my gun.
Thanks guys.
Really like this build to have a short barrel for a light hunting rifle .
Does any one run a 22"-24" barrel with the above heads and make 3k ?
