Hi folks,

Looking for your suggestions for a 100gr (maybe a little heavier) load for a 257 Roberts.

Would like this rifle to do 2 things:

1) Be a load that will work well enough on foxes
2) Be good enough for small deer work

In order to comply with hunting laws I need at least a 100gr bullet for certain species of deer.

I'd like a relatively fast and flat load to help shooting foxes a bit further out.

So, my thoughts are a boat tailed soft point or a boat tailled ballistic tip for good BC and launched at 3000fps or above (24" barrel)

Any idea? Rifle is safe enough for modern +P loads

Thanks in advance,

Scrummy

110 grain Nosler Accubond started off at 2,900fps with 46 grains RL19. Awesome accurate and consistent. (Nosler lists 2,940 at 47grains RL19 as max load).

I usually start at 44grains and work up to 2,900.

Max pressure will be close to 2,950fps

For the 100grain Ballistic tip Nosler lists (I have NOT shot/tested this load)

Most accurate powder IMR4350 as listed by Nosler manual
100 NBT
39.5 grains @ 2820
up to
43.5 grains @ 3007

My buddy used to use the suggested accuracy and it is also the suggested hunting load listed in the 4th edition Sierra manual with their 100 gr boat tail bullet for deer.
38.2 grs IMR 3031 Winchester case and Rem 9 1/2 primer 3000 fps from a 22" barrel. This is a MAX load so work up to it. This killed deer like lightening struck them.

35.9 grs IMR 4064 with the 117 Sierra 2600 fps is the suggested hunting load from the 4th Sierra manual that I also loaded for my buddy. It was accurate but he wanted to use the 100 gr Sierra because it shot faster and flatter. I use the 117 Sierra Pro Hunter in my 25-06 at 3000 fps and I can attest that it is DEADLY out to around 600 yards so far on deer. It has been my experience that out to 300 yards most any .257 from the 250 Savage on up is DEADLY on deer.

morning, 100gr TTSX Barnes, I use in 257AI-250 savage-257 Wbee and 257 STW.

very accurate bullets very terminal.gun)
