They sure don't grow em like that around here. Some farmer's gonna be mad, that man shot his steer!

The .22LR as a Long Range Tool?

When I was in high school, I shot .22's alot. I've got 4 target rifles and a couple plinkers and pistols. I made a 12" square plate, and hung it from a piece of re-bar and painted it white, and would shoot it out to 250 yards. Have a winchester 52B with a 8-32X target scope with the 1/8 min...

How does cold affect your barrel?

Does anyone know which type of metal is used in the accumark barrel? It is the factory 26" fluted stainless colored barrel, with black coloring in the flutes/grooves.

How does cold affect your barrel?

Glad you got to go for a while buffalobob. I'm still getting used to this zeiss scope. The cross hairs in this thing are like 1.5" drain pipe. I shot 2 small does yesterday afternoon at 290 yards, and 10 minutes later missed an easy 295 yard shot at a monster. I got in a hurry and pulled the...

How does cold affect your barrel?

10-4 on the condensation deal. I'll just keep the ammo in my shirt pocket and the gun & case in the garage. I'm also going to limit my shots to 300, until I get a better handle on the cold weather ballistics. I blew the front legs off a nice deer 2 years ago, at 415 yards, and I was aiming...

How does cold affect your barrel?

That's what happens, it drops more. Quite a bit, really. I'm still at the same elevation, maybe 3 feet above sea level. Around here the highest point within 60 miles or so is the highway overpass. Maybe the landfill. I guess I'll have to shoot it on paper in the cold weather sometime, it just...

How does cold affect your barrel?

I've noticed over the last couple of years that a rifle I had sighted in during hot humid weather(July 90 deg,90% humidity) will be off at ranges past 250 yards when shooting in 20 to 30 degree weather. Not very consistently either. Anyone else had this happen?

    Adjusting scope for range

I appreciate you checking on that for me. I'm not really hoping to make this rifle into a LR rig like some of you all shoot, but I would like to be able to kill deer out to maybe 500 yards max, and routinely at 400. The leupold I had on it before was great, but every year I'd see these big deer...

    Adjusting scope for range

It's a good scope, just isn't what I need on this rifle. You have to turn it down so low to gather enough light that you can't see the deer. Glad you like yours, I'm going to try something else on this gun this year. If the zeiss doesn't work out right I'll try a nightforce, I guess.

    Adjusting scope for range

Man, I just took a Vari-X III 4.5-14X50 off that gun. I was having a really hard time seeing deer in the last few minutes of shooting light at 250-300 yards. Saw some huge bucks last season with my little zeiss bino's, but couldn't get on them with the scope. I have high hopes for this new...

    Adjusting scope for range

Please forgive me for asking newbie questions. I'm very interested in extending my shooting ranges out beyond 350 yards, and am trying to figure out some ideas in theory before I just start shooting. I just bought my first zeiss scope, a diavari vm/v 3-12x56 with illuminated heavy duplex. I've...

    7mm STW info

Thanks for the info. Our rifle season starts Saturday, and I'm home with a bad cold, nothing to do but watch the outdoor channel and scheme about my new rifle. Trying to get better before the weekend, got a lot of deer that need shooting. The ballistics program is pretty cool, I've been running...

    7mm STW info

I found a downloadable ballistics program, and entered as much info as I could. I sure don't know the ballistic coeffecient of the bullet, or the powder type winchester uses. Anyway, from what I can gather, sighted 3" high at 100 yards should put it zeroed at 335 yards. 4.4" low at 400, and...

    7mm STW info

Hello, I'm new to this site, thought I'd ask for some advice on my new deer rifle project. I'm in the process of setting up a weatherby accumark in 7mm STW. I'm putting a Zeiss diavari 3-12X 56mm on it. Setting it up to shoot whitetails in big bean fields. Most shots average 250 yards out to...
