$1000 or less Hunting scope advice for Rem 700 30.06

I've liked the glass in my Nightforces, Leupolds and Zeiss's, but no warranty experience, didn't need. Great glass in my Sightrons and Trijicons, warranty service excellent. Have had mixed results with Vortex but mostly good for price, non Chinese ones best, warranty also excellent. I've tried...

    Semi or O/U

I love my 525, had a 725, have/do own Benellis, have had several autos. For the money, very difficult to beat a Beretta A300. Reliable with any ammo, easy to clean, shoot well. I have two daughters I bought multiple 20 gauges for. If I offer them a shotgun now, both with grab a 12 gauge. With...

Should we start to boycot these high prices?

I try to support my LGS's as much as I can based on availability. Unless it's really a high ticket item, if they're within 15-20%, I buy there. Sometimes even when they're not. That said, I am super thankful for places like MidwayUSA that have stuff I need that my LGS can't get, fast shipping...

    What rifle to build

The older I get, the more I like my 30-06's. I've had/do have .20's, 22's, 6mm's, 6.5's, .45's,... With factory ammo, from pesky beavers with 55 grain accelerators to black bears and moose with 180's, a more versatile rifle is hard to come by. If it's within 1100 yards, needs shot, and weighs...

    300 Win Mag???

My box stock Savage 112 BVSS reliably shoots sub MOA at 100, 200, 300, 500, 600, and 1000 yards with Federal Gold Medals, best was .7 MOA with hand loads. No brake on mine, but it's a heavier rifle, have shot it 60 rounds back to back in matches several times, and it's been bounced around on...

    Browning barrel thread

You didn't say that! ;0) Depends on the caliber. My 30-06 is "non-standard" 9/16-24. I believe the magnums were 5/8-24, and I presume the point two calibers are smaller, but not sure..... I've seen posts that say some of the threads are metric, but I haven't seen that yet. Browning was...

    Browning barrel thread

Browning got into the threaded game late????? My 1994 A-bolt 30-06 has the Boss system, threaded barrel. Who else had a threaded barrel 26 years ago?

Hodgdon is getting on my last nerve

BY the way....I was a diehard fan of H4350 and Clays, but the way these turkeys are, I've switched to Alliant. I believe in supporting an AMERICAN manufacturer, no slight intended to ADI, who makes great powder. I only wish we could buy direct from them and curt out the middleman.

Hodgdon is getting on my last nerve

Hodgdon Manufacturing...another Urban Legend. Hodgdon is a distributor except for a few very limited examples. Most of the powder you're looking for is made by ADI in Australia and Hodgdon forgets their place in the food chain pretty regularly resulting in supply disruption. Unfortunately, in...

    308 or 30-06 with heavy’s

I own all three as well, and have shot paper with all a lot at 1000 yards. They are pretty close, but if you keep things apples for apples, a 300wm is 10% above a 30-06 which is 10% above a 308. If I were making a living poking 20-30 holes at a time in paper at 1000 yards, I’d use the .308 with...

    New Cheesehead

I've been reading this site for a long time, but figured it was time to join. I've been shooting from Skeet on up to competition at 1000 yards, and this seems like a great place for info and kindred spirits. Have a good day today and a better one when you next go afield. Dennis
