Where can I see a lot of guns?

You'll pass by a lot of cool places in Utah. If you like old guns at all, take some time to stop at the John M. Browning museum in Ogden. It's inside an old train station, and they have a lot of cool, historical firearms. If you want to shoot some cool stuff, TNT Gun Range in Midvale and the Gun...

    rmington 783 vs ruger american

I've been toying with the idea of picking up a Ruger American Predator as a cheap back up gun. The Predator version has a slightly heavier barrel, and it is available in 6.5 Creedmore. i have heard good things about the accuracy of both rifles, but the 6.5 would be best for longer range shooting.

    new scope ideas

I really like my Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16x44. It has a hash marked reticle, but I like to dial for distance and use the hash marks for wind.

    New guy

Where at in Utah? Kents Marketplace in Tremonton has the best prices around on Vortex Optics. They can save you $100 + over bigger stores. They sell Nightforce, Huskemaw, and Swaravski too, but those will all be over $800.

    straight or angled spotting scope?

I switched from straight to angled last year, and I will never go back. One of my favorite benefits is that I can carry a much smaller tripod in the field and still be able to use it comfortably. I still have the old straight body scope, but it stays in my truck on a window mount.

Was told that NF is over price

Hahaha. This should be in the comedy section! Thats the hardest i've ever laughed on this site. Really though, 2.5"? I've seen that from my Mosin Nagant with open sights. I do shoot a Vortex HS-T on my long range rifle right now,and I love it, but sometime when I'm not a poor college student...

    Mid range rifle suggestion

You can get a semi auto 22-250. not sure if there is a factory gun available, but you can build one on an AR-10 platform. For cheap ammo though, I would go with a standard .223 AR. My Dad has one with a match barrel that shoots 1/2 moa 5 shot groups at 200yds.

    New Hand loader

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have now ordered the book, "Modern Reloading" as was suggested by several people. As soon as it gets here I will get reading, and see where I decide to go from there.

    New Hand loader

I'm pretty new to long range shooting, and up till now I have just been practicing with factory loads.I want to start hand loading for my 7 rem mag, but I really have no idea where to start. It seems like pretty much every company sells kind of an entry level kit. Wuold one of those be a good...

    Which rings and what height

With the 20 moa base, get the low rings. I have the same scope, and bought medium rings at first, but they were a little too high

Vortex tactical or SWFA SS - tac 30mm rings

I haven't used the Vortex rings, but I currently have the swfa rings set up on my 7mm RM. They are very solid rings. I have never had any problems in about 300 rounds from a 9lb rifle with no brake. The only downside would be that they are VERY heavy.

    Scope for 7mm rem mag

I have a Vortex Viper HS-T on a 20 moa base on my 7RM, but that was set up with slightly longer shots in mind. It gives me enough adjustment to get out well past 1 k. My Dad has a Nikon Prostaff 4-12 on his .308, and it is very easy to get on targets out to 600yds or so with the BDC reticle and...

Which US state has the most pride?

I can't believe no one has mentioned Utah! It was number three on the list, and I take a lot of pride in being from the only state with an official State Gun!

moa bases do I need them

I have the same scope, also on a 7 rm, and mounted on a 20 moa warne tactical base At 1000 with a 300 yd zero your load should be dropping just over 21 moa. that is well within the range of the scope, so you dont really need the 20 moa base, but it will come in handy if you ever want to go...

    New guy... Starting a build.

Have you considered keeping the current barrel? The 30-06 has no problem reaching out to 600 yds and beyond. Unless the barrel is already shot out, I dont see the point in changing it, especially on a budget build. Save the money for the new stock and better glass.
