I have a model 600 Remington in 6mm Remington. I have found the best use of the short barrel involves using a bigger bullet. Try IMR 4350 and a 100 Grain Gameking. At my altitude it shoots less than one inch @ 100 yards going 3000 fps. It is a decent little deer rifle.
