What would you rebarrel a .270 into?

I am a 270 Win fan, if I was doing it I would get a 26" stainless barrel, heavier than #3 contour, of the best quality in a twist that would fit the bullet weight range of my loadings and go for it.

I bought a Howa rifle the other day and included in the box as part of the deal is a set of rings and a 1 piece base. Does anyone know the quality of these items ? They come packaged as Nikko Stirling brand. Thanks, Jerry

    Caliber suggestion

Thanks for the replies. The 260 was looking real good until I found that my rifle makers of choice do not chamber a rifle for it. Not sure I want to go the 25-06 route again. The 243 is holding a spot as well as the 7-08. The others mentioned I'm not familiar with. This will be a fun gun...

    Caliber suggestion

I am not a hunter anymore, sold my 25-06 2 years ago but still have 35 Rem and 45-70. I am wanting a caliber for target shooting and rock busting at 300 + yards. I am 70+ so I don't need a caliber that will beat me to death, my 45-70 can do that. 25-06 ,7-08, 243 are what I know best. The...

Hog Hunting in S. New Mexico?

I live in Los Lunas and last month I called a few of the state and federal agencies to get some info. Well, NMGF said near Roswell the feds did some helicopter eradication, in the Lincoln County area there are some but the hunters there won't give up the secrets, non in the Las Cruces area and...

    Good caliber for HOG hunting

I do not know a thing about the 6.5 Creedmore, I did look up info on it and it is impressive. I am not ready to buy yet, when I line up a spot to hunt and see what type of country it is I will decide. I may use what I have, but, I favor the 7mm08. Thanks, Jerry

    Good caliber for HOG hunting

Thanks guys, My caliber choice will be decided when I do come up with a place to hunt. I do not have scopes on either of my lever actions and hope to not have to. I think my 70 yr old eye sight is still okay with irons up to 100 or so yds. Much beyond that I will use a scope and have a...

    Good caliber for HOG hunting

Kevin, Thank you. I have 75 yd, 100 yd and 125 yd marked off between me and my southern neighbor. I feel good about the 35 on anything that would be in that range. SE New Mexico seems to have the hogs but mostly on private land, I think. Out there not counting a few canyons shots can be...

    Good caliber for HOG hunting

I must add that I am not the kind of shooter that sits in one zip code and shoots to the next. My neighbor to the south of me is close to 300 yards away, that is a long ways. The 35 and the 45-70 both have the punch but it is like shot putting bowling balls. The more I look at the 7mm08 the...

    Good caliber for HOG hunting

I need some insight on a caliber. I had a 25-06 but sold it a few years ago. All I ever shot with it was paper. I have a 35 Rem and a 45-70 but neither one is what I want to use for 200+ yd shots, 300 or so may be a max distance. I want a bit bigger bullet than what the 25 caliber offers...

    NM regs out

One thing that I have noticed is a lot of TV about N.M. Elk. Good, bad, not sure. My son follows the regulations, I have not quizzed him on his feelings yet.
