    Rifle and bullet observations

I have been very fortunate to grow up here in southwest Virginia in a hunting family. My father started me hunting at 8 years old with a winchester single shot .410. I'm 37 now and still get goosebumps at the sight of a deer. I am not as you would say a trophy hunter but more of a meat hunter...

    .308 Norma Mag.

So by all accounts I assume recoil and velocity would compare to a .300 weatherby or Win. Mag. Good to know so as I will not get a case of scope eye. Thanks for the load recipe. I do need to read some on for fire forming since I have never done it. Does Norma or anyone make brass gor it now.

    .308 Norma Mag.

Really looked the gun over good and boy does it feel like a dream. The stock is custom made and the barrel is free floated. The trigger breaks at 12oz. He also gave him dies and 20 previously loaded shells but warned us they were loaded in the mid 1980's. He hasn't had the gun out of his safe...

    .308 Norma Mag.

I will be using it for hunting hopefully. Would love to hear about the performance of this cartridge on game and distance shooting.

    .308 Norma Mag.

Father-in-law bought this .308 Norma Mag. About a month ago. It is built on a Mauser 98 action with a 26 inch Douglas barrel mated with a Timmney trigger. Does anyone have experience with this caliber. I'm looking for a starting place on loads and what would be a realistic expectation of...

    Free float handguards

I looked at the magpul and looks like what I was envisioning. I'm really hoping to keep this rig light because of the walking I do. Plus the short carbine length will aid greatly in the woods where I live. Thanks for all the ideas.

    Free float handguards

I decided to order the YHM Specter Customizable. I really liked the round tube as well as the multiple places for picatinney attachments. Now how about an adjustable stock with a raised cheek weld area. Any thoughts on them.

    Free float handguards

I was searching for handguards and with all the selections am having trouble deciding. I want a carbine length free float tube. I don't need a lot of rails but enough for a bipod and sling attachment. Any advice or reviews on the hogue and Yankee hill brands. I was waiting on the local gun shops...

    First AR

The trigger does feel alot better since the upgrade. I want to keep this rig as light as possible. What opinions do you all have on the aforementioned handguard as well as the lightest possible stock and a quality variable power scope that is still light. 16 inch may not have been the best...

    First AR

It is a carbine length 16 inch barrel chambered in .223 or 5.56. I am mainly looking for a good coyote and groundhog tool. 1 in 9 twist barrel with glacier handguàrds.

    First AR

I may should have also mentioned that this is my first semi rifle of any type. I have been a bolt man all my life and currently hand load for a .300 weatherby, various .243 models and a custom 22-250. I know I went inexpensive on my choice of AR but was testing the waters so to speak to see how...

Getting the Best Precision and Accuracy from Berger VLD bullets in Your Rifle

I must admit that my velocities are only 2950 in this weatherby but zeroed 3 inches high at 100 sure does a number on whitetail from the tip of your boot to 350 plus or minus yards. We don't get many truly long range shots here in Virginia.

Getting the Best Precision and Accuracy from Berger VLD bullets in Your Rifle

I have been loading the 190gr. Berger VLD in my .300 Weatherby Vanguard Sporter with 76gr. Reloader 22 with Federal 215M primers in Norma brass with C.O.L. of 3.560. Three shot groups are consistently running in the 5/8th inch range. Knowing that Weatherby freebore is long to begin with I would...

    First AR

Recently purchased my first AR. I got a smoking deal on a DPMS Sportical for coyote and general varmint hunting here in the mountains of southwest Virginia. I don't plan on any shots further than 300 yards. I have installed a Mega-Arms trigger and will be putting an Alexander Arms G10 Composite...
