    270 WIN BEST POWDER ELK

Ok, here's my experience with my rig, 24" with modified 98 Mauser action, tapered barrel. I use 135grn SMK, with Match Federal Primers GM210M, and Winchester brass. My rig likes 2900ft/sec speeds with 1:11 twist, and these loads are what I run with for accuracy (1/2" MOA): 1) H1000, at 59.9 grns...

    Opinoin of Vortex Optics

I have a Razor II HD 4.5-27. Love it. It has always been dead on. However, I have never dropped it or smacked it hard. I also like the weight. It is heavier than some of its competitors, and helps hold down my big gun. It doubles as a club. I'm not worried about the weight because I have a...

    338 Lapua questions

I use 285 Hornady Match, with 89.6grns of H1000, and M215 Federal. US and Retumbo didn't work well in my ride. The 300smk and 300Berger work awesome too, but 285 did sub 1/2"moa.

Do you really need a runout gauge??

Two questions related to this conversation so that I can follow and learn: 1) What do you mean by "Button?" 2) What is an acceptable error on the dial when rolling the cartridge? Thanks.

What powder and how much - .270?

I use a 270W. It likes SMK at 135grn with 59.9grns of H1000 at about 2900ft/sec; which is very accurate for my setup (1/2" MOA). A good backup powder for it is H4831 at 56.0grns; almost as accurate. The MOA is correct, I spend a lot of time and money developing loads specific to my rifles; most...

Anyone checked out the new Atip from Hornady??

Lance: Let us know how they go. I'm focused on precision more than anything. Tight groups at distances are great. Also, have you done any solid copper bullets? Thanks.

One powder to rule them all (30-06)?

I have a '51 Husqvarna 270W. I have worked several loads over the years for this. Because older rifles don't have the tight twist modern rifles do, the respond a little different to bullets weights. In experimenting, I have found 2 modern powders that work very well with this; H4831, and H1000...
