50 vs 54 Cal. with Conicals

Fifty with conicals. 54 bullets with equal sectional density and overall exterior ballistics don't offer anything but more recoil IMO.

    NTX ??

Hope to get after some coyotes soon and maybe get an actual field test opportunity.

    NTX ??

Today I tested an NTX load in a Tikka T3 Lite. 35 grain propelled by Xterminator. While typically my "internet groups" are not that great but these grouped better than any previous loads in this gun at five shots just a hair an inch and chronoed at 3916. Also ran a few groups with...

    NTX ??

Curious if anyone has tried the Hornady NTX bullets. They are said (by Hornady 😀 ) to be both deadly and fur friendly. Wondering what the real world thinks.

    Reading Topo maps

This map is a good example. There is a long narrow bench on the left side of this stream. I only found it by hiking in a diagonal up the side of the valley.

    Reading Topo maps

Many good benches won't show up on your topo maps. Saddles are very productive during the times when they are moving. Benches good for extremely slow still hunting during mid day. Especially if there is water immediately available. If you hit benches hard they may move completely out...

    Which caliber

If you really really really think you might need a handgun for bear protection, don't rely on a single action revolver. If you have never had a bear make a move on you, you will be shocked at the speed. Almost (emphasis on the "Almost) as important as action type and caliber is how quickly...

Recording load data and other info

I use this spreadsheet that I put together long ago. Much of this info would be of no interest to most shooters but it's oriented around my shooting and firearms. It autocalcs group size velocities, etc. Also autocalcs for iron sight adjustments.

How do you clean your Brass?

Size and deprime, 15 minutes in NRA formula cleaner, TTL and spin clean with scotchbrite in the Lee thingy chucked in electric dill.

    Finally got it figured out

I finished a new 30 Nosler a few weeks ago and I was having a lot of trouble with ladder testing. I tried N570 and H1000. Today, I switched to CCI primers and Retumbo and that seemed to be the trick. I found a node at 86.5 grains of powder and didn’t get pressure until 88 gr. Really looking...
