I put a pre-fit Criterion 260 Rem. barrel on my Savage and was able to hit an 18" plate at 1760 a couple of times. The stock on it is a Choate. This was a used gun that I bought so I have around $1000. in it. Lots of room for good glass.
I shoot a 260 rem. and use a 40moa. Farrell base holding American Rifle Co. rings wrapped around my IOR Recon 4-28x50 40mm scope. The scope has 35 mils of elevation in it. I had to use 22 mil elevation to throw the 140gr. Hybrid at 2860fps. to hit an 18in. plate at 1760. Farrell makes great...
I have a Criterion in 260 an am very happy with it. I shoot mid and long range targets. I also have hit a 18 inch plate at 1760 a couple of times. The guys who make Criterion use to work at Krieger. I think they started making prefits for military rifles 03's and Garands.
I would go with the 260 if you reload. I think it has just a little more punch. My 260 is used fo target shooter and have lit a 18" plate at 1760 yards a couple of times, using Berger 140 hybred. My load stays supersonic out to 1300 yards and still running 1270fps.

I have a short action savage and put a Criterion prefit 260 barrel on it. I am a target shooter and shoot 600 yds. all the time and it will put it in the X ring when I do my part. Also have shot it at 1000 very well but what thrilled me was hitting an 18 inch plate at 1760 twice. Criterion makes...
