The new Leupold 7-42X /56mm scope w/ a 34mm tube is quite impressive. Although it is designed primarily for the target crowd, it could make a wonderful long-range varmint scope. Mine featues the MOA-type reticle. Good shooting...James
I am testing one at the present time. So far my impressions have been very favorable. James Mock
PS- I have also shot the "square" with the 7X-42X model and the results are in the photo below.
I understand that IOR Valdada has a candidate for the honor of Ultimate Scope. It is a 12X to 52X with 40mm tube and 56mm objective. I has a second focal plane reticle that has a detent that marks the hash marks in mils and another detent that marks MOA. Although it weighs 3 pounds, I think that...
If one likes the features of a FFP scope, that is the one he/she should buy. If the preference is for the SFP, then that is the one for you. All of this bickering about which one is best is like a Chevy vs Ford argument. The differences have been clearly explained here. Make your choice and live...
I use this rifle in short range BR competition and the Davidson bases are glued on and I did not want to remove them. The folks at NF sent a set of their fine rings with the scope. I added the adaptor to clamp onto the Davidson bases and provide a weaver type top for the NF rings. Good...
The first focal plane reticle subtends the same distance no matter what power. A problem with the ffp is that the reticle is maganified as the power is increased. One ends up with a thick reticle at the higher powers and a thin one at low.... just the opposite of what most people want. Good...
I received a new Nightforce Competition 15X-55X (50mm) scope for evaluation. It is lighter than their NXS 12-42x 56mm by about 7 ounces. This scope weighs 27.8 ounces. It features ED glass and 1/8th moa adjustments. Here is a picture on my BAT 6mm Dasher (Brux barrel). James
I carried my grandson (Isaac) on his first deer hunt. He is only 8 years old and has trouble sitting still and being quiet...like all 8 year-olds. We did not kill a deer but we did get a nice bobcat with my 6mm Dasher. James
This rifle is amazingly accurate. Gary Ocock did a superb job barreling and bedding this fine action. Here is picture of the latest group that I shot. James
I shot these 3-shot groups at 100 yards w/ Berger 105 Hybrids while working up a load for the Sept. 15th 600 yard match at Goodwill, LA. I won the match with 31.8 grs. of Re 15. I shot a 187/200 w/ 4 x's. Good shooting ...James
Although "Isaac" has the rain pouring down as I type this, I have had a chance to shoot the Saguaro some more. Here is my friend, Richard Milton, giving it a try. It has been very accurate with a variety of loads. James
This is straight from Walt Berger and Eric Stecker. Both bullets use J-4 jackets, but the Hunting bullet uses the original THIN jacket, while the target buillet uses A thicker jacket- which will not expand reliably at longer distances. Good shooting...James
The action is very much like a Panda with a steel insert in the locking lug area and another where the bolt handle hits the action body (cam area). It is 1.0625 inches shorter than the Panda. James
Although this action is not designed for long range big game, it is for short range BR. It also would make a fine varmint rifle. The action is similar to the popular Kelbly Panda but has 1.0625 inches removed from the middle to make a nice short aluminum/steel insert-type action. I am in the...
