    High Velocity Of High BC

In a more serious vein, I'd say that the 408 has a barrel life of 1-2000 rounds at best. 1 loading is at 3000FPS, and another, lighter bullet goes 3500FPS...both fine barrel burners compared to the 2700 FPS of the 50BMG and 7.62.

    hodgdon extreme powders

Agree!!! My experience is that the Winchester ball powders are temperature sensitive as well. My main experience is with WW-748 and 308Win. loads developed in 50's temp and show excessive primer flattening at 80-90 temps. I've used RL-15 for my long range 223 loads with 80 grain bullets, but...

    High Velocity Of High BC

I've always preferred high BC over HV, probably due to my long range competition shooting. The HV (with lighter bullets) produces spectacular kills at reasonable ranges..250-300 yards with the 55 gr .224 bullets, while the 70-80 grain VLD bullets will do better out to 600+ yards, depending on...

Do You Own An AR15 Rifle?

Hmmmm...If that was a 10 shot group at 200 yards it would be decent for a heavy barreled AR :D

    Reloading advantages?

I started about the same time...and for the same reasons! If I wasn't a reloader, I wouldn't have the knowledge of capability to amaze my high power shooting friends when my 223 HBAR beat their M-1A's at 600 and 1000 yards. 80 grain bullets were only available to reloaders in '89-90's. Now...

Do You Own An AR15 Rifle?

Hmmmm...I think that 2 is enough! 1 for Service Rifle comp. (my HBAR) and 1 for fun with the G-kids....altho I may consider a larger caliber upper one day :) Harvey

    Reloading advantages?

Not a bad price for the training and equipment! Be sure that you get at least 1 reloading manual...2 is better!! RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Single Stage Press Master Kit - MidwayUSA The Midway url for the press kit, FWIW. Hope your kit is similar! Harvey

    Reloading advantages?

$800 is a lot of money to spend on reloading equipment, unless you're buying top-of-the line BR stuff, electronic scales, neck reamers, etc. RCBS has a complete starter setup for $340 (Midwayusa.com). Just add dies..another $30-40, unless you have a special caliber. Lots cheaper if you go the...

    Reloading advantages?

Hmmmm you didn't show your math, but I can't see the cost per bullet being over 45 cents each, depending on cost of powder, primer and bullet. Amortizing the cost of decent reloading equipment is another thing. It's almost a hobby in itself, and also depends on how much you shoot.

Alliant RL powders compared to Hodgdon Exteme

Haven't had any problems with the Reloader series, but mainly use hodgdon Varget and H-322 in 223 and 308. Also have had excellent results with the VihtaVouri series. The most temp. sensitive powders that I've used were WW-748 and 760.

    Bullet Runout

Depends on how much you want to spend. Sinclair International sells them. I have an old Bonanza (now Forester)gauge that works with most cartridges. Hornady also makes one that's a bit easier to setup the dial indicator then the Forester.

    What is going on?!?!?!?!?!

How close to the lands do you load the bullets?? Some 223 chambers have a very long throat (like my HBAR), and the bullet may have a long jump to the rifling with magazine length loads. Also try 68/69 grain bullets with powders like 4895, 4064 and Varget. Try Rem 7 1/2 primers if you aren't...

    hodgdon extreme powders

I's say that they are!! I use Varget in my 223 and 308W. , and H4831SC in my 30/06. The long range Palma shooters use Varget in the heat of summer, and no longer shade or even cool their loads. I also have had good temperature tolerance with the VitaVouri powders.

Do You Own An AR15 Rifle?

Hi Mike.. I have one of the first Colt HBAR's....1-7 twist, 20 inch chromed bore barrel. It's been modified a bit by Compass Engineering (Fla.) for Service Rifle comp. Mostly 4 1/2 pound trigger, sleeve under the hand guard, .050 front post and 1/2 min sight adjustments. I use a 16x scope for...
