The MDT HNT26 and XLR Element 4.0 chassis are about as light as a chassis will get. If you want to go lighter and are willing to give up the features of a chassis (arca rail, folding stock, etc.) you can check out the Manners Ultra Classic.
I use a Nanuk 995 and then an Armageddon Gear M2010 soft case inside it. The soft case can be used on it's own but if you want to travel the soft case is a perfect fit inside the Nanuk so that it travels while protected by the hard case.
For hunting optics I like 2x-3x on the low end and 15x-18x on the high end. I find the 5x and 6x erector ratios seem to be in the sweet spot as they don't require the kinds of compromises that 7x and 8x erectors do.
A progressive running at full speed (volumetric power thrower with ball powder) isn't going to give you the same quality ammo that a single stage will using a high quality scale (Supertrickler or Autotricklerv4) and the best stick powders. A progressive can get very close to a single stage if...
If you want to shoot the heavies and also want factory ammo as an option go with the 6CM. If you don't care about factory ammo availability then a fast twist (say 7.7 or 7.5) .243 throated long will be great and let you continue to use the dies and brass you already have.
Bumping this thread in the hopes of an update. I'm in the market for a short action cartridge that can shoot copper monos and it seems like the combination of screaming fast speeds and low recoil could really scratch that itch.
Anyone feeding a 6.5 PRC in a long action out of a single stack 3.8 CIP AICS magazine?
This thread has gotten me to thinking. Not good for the wallet...
I would suspect yes for the smaller stuff (6BR derivatives) that require magazine kits. The only kits I am aware of are made for AICS magazines, I don't know if there are any for Tikka mags. For the longer stuff (6CM and 6XC) I think you would be ok. I am not sure how the 6GT would work but it's...
A lot of these cartridges are short enough that they require magazine kits on a short action (e.g., 6 BR and derivatives). Your just asking for trouble trying to play around with them on a long action. If your really set on going with a long action I'd be looking at a 6CM and even then you might...
Don't mess with it. The barrel is already a shooter and there is no guarantee that the new barrel will shoot as well or as fast (even with an extra few inches).
Buy a nice ARCA rail from RRS and get with the wood screws. If your friend is in the market for an ARCA clamp for his bipod I would check out the ARCA clamp RRS makes that can be used with Atlas bipods or MDT Cyke bipods. It's a very nice piece of gear.
