I am looking for a range of torque specifications I can experiment with for actions that are bedded on aluminum pillars. Any suggestions? Two Winchesters Model 70's, one in 300 WSM and one in 270 WSM. Also, one Remington 700 in 204 Ruger. Thanks.
I have a Model 70 in 300 WSM and 270 WSM. Love them both after I bedded them in thumbhole laminated stocks from Boyds. Bedded them both with home made aluminum pillars and Devcon. Both of them are now shooting 1/2 MOA after working up the right loads. Inch and a half groups at 300 yds...
There is absolutely nothing wrong with your 270 for Coues deer. A very large buck will field dress at 110-115 lbs. with smaller bucks dressing at 60 to 90 lbs. I have taken several over the years with a 243 and an 85 gr. hollow point boat tail out to 300 yards with well placed shots. Welcome...
I have the Remington SPS Varmit chambered in 204 ruger. It is the first Remington I have ever owned. I am a Winchester Model 70 guy and spend a lot of time bedding stocks and achieving accuracy that I am very proud of. My remington is bone stock and the plastic stock is less than impressive...
Thanks Gary. I would like to check if the barrel is concentric with the barrel and that may tell some of the story. Is that a simple test at the Smiths?
Thanks for the reply. The triggers were factory set at 6lbs. I have reduced those to 2.5lbs for my next trip to the range. Both barrels are free floating (checked with two pieces of typing paper slid between barrel and stock, no problem). The factory bedding job is at the recoil lug (looks...
I have two Model 70'S, one in 270WSM and the other in 300WSM. They are both bone stock and brand new. Both barrels were broke-in using the methods described in the Barnes manuel. Any suggestions for what I might have done to these guns to improve accuracy a bit. Best I can get is about 1.5"...
I drew a unit 34b late whitetail tag (DEC 11-31). Pretty excited about the early rut hunt. I haven't had a dec tag in many years. I just like that hunt with the colder weather and the begining of the rut you can't go wrong. The downside is, I don't know the unit very well but I will begin to...
