    Blind Width

Plan on getting a TAC 15 and I have noticed it looks pretty long in some of the videos. If I am hunting out of a blind, how many feet would I need for width or clearance to shoot? Would 5 feet wall to wall be enough? I would want it wide enough to keep the business end inside the blind when...

    Temperature and Shotgun Range

Many times you will see a 20 or 30 degree temperature fluctuation on a typical turkey hunting day. You might have a 55-yard gun in the late afternoon, but that same shotgun may max out at 50 yards on a cold morning at daylight. A 20 degree drop in air temperature is going to lower your pellet...

    Trajectory for Hevi-Shot Duck 2 ¾” 7.5s

With the right choke diameter, Hevi-Shot Duck 7.5 2 ¾” shells should give your 12 gauge a killing pattern in the 40 to 50-yard range. It is a great option for hunters that don’t like the kick of traditional turkey loads or are limited to 2 ¾” shells. You can use the same choke diameters that...

    Never Fails

I drive 2 hours to go hunting and the wife videos multiple toms running around the back yard. I think the kids’ fort is going to get a serious makeover before next spring. Some camo might be nice. :D Toms.mp4 video by BrokenBrowBucket -...

what choke for a rem 870?

No problem. Good luck. As long as we are talking about Rem chokes, I also ran some H-13 7s through a .670 choke just to see what would happen. The pattern density drops off about 25% as compared to the .660 diameter chokes.

what choke for a rem 870?

I have used the Tightwad (.660) and the H-13 (.662) with H-13 7s. The H-13 choke edges out the Tightwad in my shotgun (within 3% of each other). I have not shot the Truglo Gobble Stopper choke, but that is because of the choke diameter (.665). The .660 diameter tends to average 10% denser...

    KYP Shotshell Balistics Program

I have a copy of the program. It is a step in the right direction, but it is really geared toward waterfowl and upland game. The applications for turkey hunting are limited at this time. It offers shotshell ballistics at only 2 temperatures (32 or 70 degrees). It has a good selection of shot...

Quick Way to Improve your Pattern Count

I know what you mean. You see it on the internet all of the time. There was a cold and windy spring a couple of years ago. There was one site telling hunters they can shoot turkeys at 70 yards, but they were not provided the information needed to account for those types of weather conditions...

Quick Way to Improve your Pattern Count

The quickest way to improve your pattern count is to move south. Here is how much you can improve: If you are getting over 100 pellets in the 10 @ 40 yards in April in Minnesota: That same gun and choke will get ~ 115 in Iowa. Missouri will bring you up to ~ 125. Arkansas will bring you up to...

    Opinions on turkey chokes

Have you thought about going smaller to 6s or 7s in HTL? If you considered shooing Hevi-Shot, Winchester Xtended Range, Hevi-13, or ITX Extreme Turkey Trauma-13, you can extend your range and there is a formula you can follow to pick a choke. The Mossberg 835 has a larger bore diameter...

    Decoy Setups for Long Range

Once you have your shotgun set up for 40+ yards, the door opens up for additional decoy arrangements that a tom may not have seen before. One that I like to do on fields is to put the hen decoy within about 10 - 15 yards of your position and a jake decoy out ~ 35 yards in the field. I know that...

    2 more days

We started Wednesday. Got one in camp so far. The old timer still hunts with a Winchester Ranger 140, so he has to shoot 2 ¾” shells. He patterned with Hevi-Shot Duck loads in #7.5. Took his turkey at 45 yards with a Jelly Head .660 choke.
