WHAT CABLIER SHOOT FLATER 7MM-08 OR 6.5 .284

I agree with your reasoning, BUT... wouldn't an even fairer comparison be between the 6.5mm 142 grain SMK and a 7mm 162 grain Amax? I gather from the tone of the comparison that you're trying to take each candidate's best offering. If this is the case, I recommend considering the 7mm08 with...

    Winchester and Super X brass

I see that they both come from Winchester, and they're close in weight. Is it the same brass with a different label? Thanks, Bob

    shell holders for case trimming

an update to possibly save someone else some confusion: the folks at midway went back into their storeroom with some calipers, and all of their 'new' shell holders are off. they're sent back to wilson for corrections. apparently they're scheduled for return in mid july. good excuse to buy...

    shell holders for case trimming

i'm starting to get to the bottom of this. i measured my brass. it's within industry specs. so, i measured the shell holder. it's .010'' smaller than the industry standard! i called wilson, and they offered to fix it for me. that would have taken time to get it there, time for return...

    shell holders for case trimming

thanks for the reply, okiehunter. i think that i'm full length sizing. i got out the directions (you know i'm desperate when i resort to the directions!) for my "lee deluxe rifle die set," and i'm using the 'full length sizer.' there's also a 'collet neck sizer,' but it's my understanding...

    shell holders for case trimming

i'd like to trim my brass, so i went out and got a wilsom trimmer and a shell holder for 'new' cases. the brass is on its 7th or 8th firing, but since i resized it i figured the holder for 'new' cases would work. i think i may have been wrong. they don't fit. do i need the shell holder for...

    it's time!

Re: it\'s time! thanks for the input, guys. response to abinok's questions: the only reason that i'd change the barrel is to have a 260 or 7mm-08. it seems kinda wasteful, though. you asked about the scope, too. from what i've read here and have seen at the local gun shop i decided that a...

    it's time!

it\'s time! a while back i was hell bent on getting some magnum long range rig. i borrowed my dad's old 308 m70 sporter and i bought reloading stuff instead. great investment! i've had a great time with it. now i'd like to start on my own rig. after shooting the 308 a bunch, i've decided...

starting to handload, is this a good deal?

i'd like to start handloading. i currently own nothing. i found this deal on ebay. would someone tell me if this would be a good start for me? if so, how high should i bid before it's not a good deal? the site is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW thanks, bob...

    detachable magazines on lr rifles

thanks guys, i hadn't even considered oal yet. that's another potential mistake that you guys have saved me from! why would a manufacturer make det mags that only allow smaller oals? in my blissfull ingnorance, i'd think they'd all be the same. oh well, i guess that's why nobody hired me to...

    detachable magazines on lr rifles

the guy at the local gun shop told me that detachable magazines and hinged floorplates make a rifle somewhat less precise. is this true? might be nice to have something to blame sloppy shots on i've never owned a rifle with a det mag, seems like it would be a big convenience.
