Thank you 300Rum and Remington. There was a large screw in the front which kept it from firing. Pulled the screws and it fired. Small screws now in the front - all is well.
Call support from Remington was pretty solid. Not much time at all to get a live contact and very patient...
Well I'm not ready to go postal on the dealer just yet. Spoke to Remington. Very helpful and considerate on the phone. Had the same idea regarding the screws on the scope. Will pull the scope today to test. Will let you know...
This is a bit of a head scratcher. I have a brand new Remington Model 700 VSSF II 204 gun, mounted the scope, took it to the range, and click. The gun would not fire. Not a dent in the primer. It appears that the bolt is moving forward on the trigger pull but the pin may not be travelling...
the Leupold 6.5x20x50mm LRT scope.
the Leupold 6.5x20x50mm LRT scope. - I see this scope out there for about $1125, which is over my limit of $1000.
Any other ideas?
BTW, I'm looking to star with the 39 gr bullet in my new 204.
I just got a new 204 Ruger Remington rifle I'd like to use on groundhogs. I'd also like to plink on the target range with it. I plan to shoot out to 400-500 yards with the gun.
I'd like to get a scope for under $1000. I'd like to have an adjustible, say 6.5-20 power with a 40-50 mm...
What do you recommend to be done with the trigger on the Rem 700?
If you think the Rem 700 at 8#'s is heavy, I can only imagine what the 12 pound Savage feels like!
same decision
I'm also looking at the Savage Varminter and CZ for target and groundhog shooting out to 500 yards. I'm also considering the Remington Model 700 VS SF II Varmint Fluted Rifle.
I'm a bit concerned about the Savage's 12 pounds vs the Remington 8.5.
Anyone have any opinions on...
You can do a forum search for break-in for some threads on this, but stolen from Boss Hoss, I come up with this:
1. Clean barrel / lube bolt / 1 shot.
2. Clean barrel / lube bolt / 5 shots.
3. Clean barrel / lube bolt / 10 shots.
4. Clean barrel / lube bolt / 10 to 15 shots and clean...
Does anyone have any history on this powder or know what a current comperable powder would be?
We only have a small amount left to shoot in the 6.5x300 WWH guns and wanted to start playing with other options.
Thanks in advance,
Thanks all, again.
I'm leaning toward buying the H1000 powder. Hodgon suggests starting at 84 gr and moving up to 89. Does this match with what others have done?
Again, I"m using the Norma brass who manufactures for Weatherby.
Thanks Kraky. I noticed that Hodgdon's web site doesn't like to recommend the Retumbo, unless you are shooting a heavier bullet in the 200-220 gr range. Do you remember if you were shooting a heavier load when your gun liked the retumbo? Their web site went on to recommend H1000 for the 165...
I just recently purchased a Weatherby 300 wthy mag Vanguard Sub-MOA stainless for hunting out west.
My preference is to shoot the Barnes TSX .308 165 gr BT for game up to and including Elk. I was looking for another bullet that would have a similar shape and aerodynamic profile for range...
